If we were having coffee together today...
I'd probably ask you a gentle question.
"When was the last time someone asked how you were... and you answered honestly?"
Many of the women I work with became experts at
noticing everyone else's needs.
They could tell when Mum was upset.
When Dad was angry.
When a sibling needed rescuing.
They learnt to read every room before they ever learnt to read themselves.
As little girls, that helped them feel safer.
As women, it often means they become the one everyone depends on.
The reliable one.
The responsible one.
The strong one.
But here's something I'd love you to remember today...
Being thoughtful is a beautiful quality.
Carrying everyone else isn't.
Sometimes healing begins the moment you realise...
You don't have to earn your place in the family by looking after everyone else.
Perhaps today...
before you ask someone else what they need...
pause...
and ask yourself the same question.
