Happy Mother's Day!

As my eldest approaches 18, I've been reflecting on my career and my mother's influence upon it. My Mum first suggested physiotherapy to me in Year 11 and I chose it as my first choice. I'm so glad I did because 26 years later I am sure it was the right decision as I love my profession and helping people get back to living!

I prefer cardio exercise like running and triathlons but I know it's beneficial to lift weights. Having my 17 y.o. son coach me has helped my motivation and dedication to lift more often! Crossfit was super fun but I stopped going a few months ago and I hadn't got my mojo back. Now that L is helping me, it's becoming a routine for us on the weekend 😊

Back to UTA training! I decided after hiking the Kepler that I am capable of doing the UTA22 again. Perimenopause had reduced my confidence in my body but I am getting it back now.

It was nonetheless a shock to the system when we did an 18km trail run today. Tim kept our spirits up. Thank you to Rachael for loaning her hiking poles, they felt like a game changer for the steep hills!

We had amazing weather on the Kepler Track the whole way! This is unheard of in Fiordland, even the DOC ranger was surprised by the forecast.

I didn't know how my achilles pain would hold up, especially when I found out one of my hiking poles wouldn't open when on the track πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. I hadn't used them in two years! Thank you to who gave me some helpful advice just before we left, the heel raises worked a treat.

I wasn't sure how long I could continue to multi-day hike but this trip has given me renewed confidence, despite being perimenopausal with new aches and pains. Onwards and upwards!

Back to Huskisson for the Sprint triathlon today. It's been 12 years since I started triathlons and I'm still going strong! It has everything I enjoy, variety, aerobic exercise and a fun atmosphere in a beautiful setting! Tim is a wonderful support crew too 😊

Physiotherapists know how to dance and party after a conference, especially when it's 80s music and you grew up in the 1980s! Celebrating with some of our team of pelvic health physios on the APA Women's Men's and Pelvic Health Committee!

Working with Assoc. Prof. Emmanuel Karantanis is such a privilege. Emmanuel is so generous with his knowledge of obstetrics and urogynaecology, teaching myself and countless others.

I am so fortunate to have him to learn from so that we can help women prepare for birth and provide optimal antenatal and postnatal care.

Happy World Physio Day for yesterday! I've been a physiotherapist now for 25 years and I am so glad I chose this profession.

rach has been my fellow senior pelvic health physio since 2014, learning and laughing together through the years.
