A reminder that the Maitland Riverlights festival is on in the shared space at The Levee Central Maitland tomorrow, Saturday 10th October from 2pm until 9pm.

There will be 20 cultural villages representing more than 50 nations and cultures. Your child/children might like to pick up a free Cultural Passport to have stamped at each village.

With food, live performances, floating lanterns and a light show, it’s a great afternoon and night out for the whole family.

Many of the stores in The Levee will be open until 9pm and this is a great chance to support them.

💙 COMMUNICATION IS MORE THAN WORDS! 💙

🔢 1, 2, 3… Every number tells a story! 🌟

At Let’s Talk Support, we love celebrating the little moments that are actually HUGE milestones! 💙

One of our amazing little boys, who has previously been non-speaking, has recently started counting out loud! 🥹👏

And what makes this moment even more special? Numbers are one of his favourite interests! 🔢

By following his interests, building on his strengths and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement, we are seeing his confidence and communication develop in his own way.

💬 Communication doesn’t always begin with conversation.

It might begin with a gesture, a sound, a facial expression, pointing, using a communication device or, in this little boy’s case, counting numbers!

This is why we believe in meeting children where they are, embracing their interests and recognising that every child has something to communicate, even without spoken words.

Counting may seem like a small achievement to some, but for this little boy, it is an exciting new way to use his voice and share something he loves. 💙

Join us for an inclusive, sensory-friendly celebration where neurodivergent children can have fun and parent carers can relax, connect, discover local supports and feel valued. 💜

We’re also excited to welcome a special guest from the electorate office!

Update on Thriving Kids

From 1 October 2026, families can access initial supports under Thriving Kids.

Thriving Kids is starting to help children aged 0 to 8 years who need extra support with their development and their families.

If you've noticed signs and don't know what they mean, have questions about your child's development, or are ready to find support, Thriving Kids is an easy place to start.

✅ No diagnosis needed.
✅ Trusted information on childhood development and autism.

All Thriving Kids supports will be rolled out by January 2028. The way people access the NDIS won’t change before then.

Today we welcomed Patience to the Let’s Talk Support Team. Patience is doing work placement and will be with us until the end of September. Whilst with LTS Patience will be expanding her professional knowledge within the NDIS space.

Patience is currently a Family Worker with Maitland Family Support and is completing a Bachelor of Social Work through Charles Sturt University and holds a Diploma of Community Services.

Patience is passionate about working with diverse communities, promoting inclusion, and supporting families to overcome social challenges and achieve positive outcomes.

We are excited to have Patience with us and I’m sure you will see her over the next few weeks attending visits with our team.
