Spotting ham out in the wild looking for its own little glow up šŸ’…šŸ˜…

Very small increase in protein (a whole 1g extra per 50g serve), but definitely not enough to write home about with the new label! At least it isn’t more $ per 100g šŸ˜…

Had the privilege to invite in someone way more knowledgeable than I to chat through grey market peptides. Join Dr Carlee Van Dyk (Sport and Exercise Physician) to answer your questions on what these are, why they keep coming up in conversations and the evidence based truth on what we know (and more importantly, what we don’t yet!).

The more I have delved into learning more about these, and trying to understand the psychology around perceived safety too, the more I have become fascinated in this area - because even though they are not in the scope of a Dietitian, we were definitely known to be asked questions about them.

Less than *30 humans* have been studied in published clinical trials for something like BPC-157 - and that is the MOST researched grey market peptide going around!! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

A must listen - 20mins of golden insight from a colleague I am honoured to have met in our sporting escapades!

Fuelling active kids is a full-time job that has me forever sharing hacks and budget wins with our athletes and parents!

One logistical win is the Carb Caddy (copyrighting this, just came up with the name haha!).

I’ve been using these a while now in the CommBank Matildas environment and it works in all areas of ease, obvious and logistics!

Fueling with purpose means eating with flexibility - these options will fit perfectly between game top ups, then teamed with sandwiches, wraps, fruit and yoghurts in longer breaks.

Additions are endless, drop your ideas here and tag your teams, athletes and fellow parents to share this win amongst the chaos!

My head can be one very busy place, and there are a lot of decisions, transitions and milestones all approaching. There wasn’t one clear reason why I felt off, low, anxious last night - but I definitely wasn’t myself.

We charged our big speaker, had the kids design a playlist (honestly the most eclectic mix from the Greatest Showman, to Brazilian Phonk, Linkin Park, G Flip and the Macarena šŸ˜…) and danced for a good hour.

I had forgotten this simple stuff, and it was a good reminder that supporting our mental wellbeing can also include a spontaneous dance party with our favourite people on Tuesday night.

Hopefully this can be your reminder (and permission) to trust what helps you regulate and complete the stress response ā¤ļø

BTS in CommBank Matildas makes for some busy and long days, but also my head is in constant reflection mode to hopefully always be doing better in all I do with how we work with our performance teams.

Underneath, the foundations of a safe food environment and full permission to fuel have been central to getting here; so once in camp, it is all about amplifying the environment and providing clinical support to any individual player or staff needs as they emerge day to day!

I know some of your eyes may be twitching at the level of packaged/processed food here - and yep, it brings me joy to pack this stuff! In the hour leading up to training or competition (and also then during), this is the stuff that delivers the goods - fast carbs, easy digestion, and super quick to grab.

Outside of these windows, the menu is filled with all the colour, variety and periodisation these girls need to recover and feel their best!

But how on earth did little ol’ me, from a small country town in NSW Australia, end up here 🄹

Still a ā€˜pinch me’ moment - last year I had the opportunity to present a seminar in Kuala Lumpur at the conference, and in the very same week suddenly found myself invited to work alongside an incredible panel of practitioners writing nutrition modules for the Female Health & Performance Project 🤯

I hadn’t yet paused to look at the introductory modules since they went live until now, and I very rarely stop to celebrate my wins - but this one still leaves me genuinely stunned.

What an honour to contribute to a globally accessible body of work dedicated to elevating the experience and performance of female footballers.

And what an even greater honour to do it alongside some truly class practitioners - .circle šŸ™Œ

A brilliant observational study that took some elite swimmers and looked at how their sleep changed depending on how much energy they had available for essential body functioning, growth and recovery (the energy our body has once we account for the amount we use for training).

There are some great clues and trends displayed in this paper that we thought were well worth a translation - as they can mean significant things to all of our sleep (and therefore progress, performance and wellbeing).

We often try all the sleep hygiene and supplement tricks when our sleep is off - but have you done a check in to ask: am I eating enough?

Lots more to come in this space, but for now this shows a trend I think we should all pay attention to šŸ’¤

Special mention to the researchers of this paper:

Pretty pretty please - stop judging your food decisions against an impossible standard.

It’s a stretch goal that life will never allow - there’s too much friction in the unexpected, and the adversities that will come your way are guaranteed.

Instead, measure success by your ability to eat flexibly. With a resilience that lets you make the best decision in each moment without that decision then deciding your worth as a person.

For each food habit you want to build, ask: ā€œwhat would make this more enjoyable?ā€

Eat the salad dressed to the nines in your favourite dressing.

Eat the kiwi fruit peeled because you prefer it.

Drink water with flavour or bubbles because it means you actually hydrate.

You don’t need us to tell you veggies are important or water is necessary - instead of prescribing, we work through where your gaps are and help you shape your environment so the choice you need for your best performance (in life and sport) actually feels obvious for your daily capacity.

The problem was never you, your knowledge or your self control.

DM us to find out how working with one of our dietitians can translate the science into something meaningful for you.

I’ve had to sit on this post for a few days, unable to find the words to do justice to what the month away for the Asian Cup have been, and what they’ve meant.

Firstly, I am so grateful that I get to throw my whole heart and head into this work because of my imcredibly empowering and supportive husband - it is something I am in awe of and do not take for granted as a female working in sport.

The team making the Final, and being so close to - and so deserving of - a win, was tough. Particularly knowing how much this means to the players, and witnessing their devastation first-hand.

When you put everything into something, and sacrifice for a result you know you can never fully control, the purpose has to be so much bigger than one outcome. And when tournament football takes you so far from normal life, everything around it needs to be exceptional.

That’s where I think the true success of this tournament lives, not just in what this team achieved, but in who they are. In their professionalism, kindness, generosity, intelligence, curiosity, humour, and creativity. In their ability to be exactly who we all need to see.

When I asked the Junior Matildas in a session last night how they were feeling after the Final, not a single word of ā€˜disappointment’ or ā€˜sad’ appeared. Two words filled the screen: Inspired and Proud.

Gosh, I feel that.

We can miss out on a trophy and still achieve so much. Amongst 75,000 screaming fans in the stadium, and millions watching from home, children with their parents and countless adults all coming together to believe in something bigger, united by this team when everything else in the world feels overwhelming.

Across 15 training sessions, 6 games, and 5 location moves through just as many timezone changes, I am so proud of this team, and the team behind the team. And let’s not forget: being the first country to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Brazil!

It’s a question I get often - especially those wanting to work in professional sport, but also one I find so hard to answer!

Every day is a little different between logistics, planning, delivery and player chats, but I thought I would share what 24hrs on a match day in tournament mode can look like in the match day environment! This one was extra chaotic as depending on the match result we were either staying in Sydney and able to go straight to bed for a rest day; or packing everything up and moving across the country first thing!

I am so aware there is nothing ā€˜normal’ about this role, and it is one not for the faint hearted, but I am one that thrives working with an aligned purpose - and for that I am so grateful to be living this reality!
