It’s finally here 💙
Finding Stillness Between the Waves is now available on Kindle.

This memoir has lived quietly within me for many years. It is a story of ocean passages, yoga, love, loss, resilience and learning to follow the quiet call within.

There are moments in life when something we have carried quietly for years finally asks to be released. For me, this book has been one of those things. I first began writing Finding Stillness …

From the archives…..a gentler Sun Salutation aboard.

A Sun Salutation doesn’t have to be fast or performed standing. In this kneeling variation, we move gently with the breath, reaching upward and then easing back towards Child’s Pose.

If your knees need extra support, place a folded blanket beneath them, or choose the standing variation if kneeling isn’t comfortable. Listen to your body and never push through pain.

Long before my island studio, I was finding simple ways to make yoga accessible wherever we happened to be.

Yoga isn’t about making your body fit the pose. It’s about adapting the practice to meet your body where it is today. 🙏

Love and light,

Some passages are remembered for the weather. Others for the people who shared them with you. ⛵️🌊

Sailing from New Caledonia to Fiji, we were joined by two young French crew, Julie Rebaudo and Jean Baptiste Bieuville (JB).

Julie brought her love of yoga aboard, and JB brought his camera. The beautiful photographs in this post were captured by Jean Baptiste Bieuville, preserving ordinary moments of life at sea that now feel anything but ordinary.

Julie later wrote about travelling with us in her eBook:

“From the very beginning, John and Leanne made me feel safe sailing with them. They had years of experience, had faced several problems on passages, and had always come through safe and sound. They are cruisers, not racers, so they would rather wait three weeks for the perfect weather to go on a passage than take unnecessary risks.”

She also admitted that she and JB had no clue how to sail when they joined us. 😊

And then there was the language barrier.

Sometimes it made communication interesting. Sometimes it created laughter. And sometimes, somewhere between French, English, sailing terminology, yoga and plenty of hand gestures, it became the perfect blend.

Oh là là… Leanne happy! 😂

Looking back at these photographs reminds me that cruising was never only about the places we sailed to. It was about the people who stepped aboard, the friendships formed, the skills shared and those wonderfully imperfect moments when somehow we all understood one another.

Another little piece of the journey behind Finding Stillness Between the Waves. 🌊

DETACHMENT

Detachment doesn’t mean you own nothing.

It means nothing owns you.

Not your possessions.
Not your expectations.
Not your past.
Not even the outcome you hoped for.

The Bhagavad Gita teaches us to act, to care, to give our best, but to loosen our grip on the result.

There is freedom in being able to love something deeply without needing to possess it.

To enjoy what comes.
To release what goes.
And to remain steady within yourself through both.

Perhaps that is part of finding stillness,
not withdrawing from life, but learning how to move through it without being held captive by it.

Own what you own. Love what you love. But let nothing own you.

Leanne 🙏

Found among our sailing videos - a short introduction filmed aboard Songlines, our 48.8-foot Ocean catamaran and the final boat we owned.

From 2015 to 2021, she carried us between Australia, New Caledonia and Fiji. She was our home, my yoga space and the setting for so many experiences now woven through the pages of my memoir.

It feels special to see this younger version of me sitting on her bow again.

Sometimes my practice was a supported front-body opening at the helm. Other times, it was Crocodile Pose stretched across the bow netting, feeling the movement of the sea beneath me.

🌊 Early beta-reader feedback…

My memoir is now in the hands of my beta readers, and receiving these first words from Sharon was incredibly encouraging:

“Very impressed, enjoying it and finding it hard to stop reading.”

After years of living this story - and many months of writing, revising, printing and reading it aloud - it means so much to know that the story is holding someone’s attention.

Thank you, Sharon, for reading and for allowing me to share your words. 💙

A friend once told me, “I was never really into yoga.”

But then she came along to some of my classes.

Some time ago she told me that it wasn’t only the yoga itself that stayed with her - it was some of the things I spoke about during class.

The little reminders to breathe.
To slow down.
To listen to your body.
To be present.
To perhaps see something in a slightly different way.

And she told me that, somewhere along the way, those words had made a little difference in her life.

That meant a lot to me. 🤍

Because yoga isn’t always about how flexible you are, how well you can hold a pose, or even whether you consider yourself a “yoga person.”

Sometimes it’s simply one thing you hear, one breath you take, or one moment of awareness that follows you off the mat and into your everyday life.

And sometimes, that’s where yoga really begins.

Leanne 🙏🥰
