This Asthma Week, the theme ‘She Needs to Breathe’, shines a light on how asthma can affect women differently across their lives.

Did you know?

🌬️ Nearly 2.8 million people in Australia live with asthma — that’s about 1 in 9 Australians.

👩 About 1 in 5 Australian women live with asthma.

⚠️ Women are twice as likely to die from asthma as men.

🤰 Asthma can change during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, it’s important to keep taking asthma medicines as advised and check in with your doctor.

🌸 Hormone changes during puberty, periods, perimenopause and menopause can make asthma symptoms better or worse.

👵 Asthma can be harder to spot as we get older because breathlessness, coughing or tiredness can be mistaken for ‘just ageing’.

✅ A current Asthma Action Plan can help you know what to do every day, what signs to watch for, and when to get urgent help.

Please don’t ignore changes in your breathing. Speak with your GP, pharmacist or nurse if you notice coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, waking at night, or needing your reliever more often.

Only one week left to donate to the Share the Dignity Drive!

We’re still collecting hygiene products to support people who are doing it tough and if you have capacity there’s just one week to go to get your donations in.

A big thank you to Soroptimist International Launceston for their incredibly generous donation of many bags of hygiene products. Your support will make a real difference in our community.

Share the Dignity has shared that they have only received 21% of the tampons they need, so they are especially asking for donations of tampons if you are able to help.

You can donate:
📍 Launceston: Drop items into our collection box outside the Salveo Healthcare office, Level 1, St Lukes Building
📍 Hobart or Launceston: Give your donation to your Salveo Healthcare nurse or health coach, who can add it to the collection box

Every donation helps restore dignity and provide essential support to someone who needs it.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed.

Loneliness Awareness Week is here, and Salveo Healthcare is getting behind it all month. This year’s theme is Make Room for Connection.

Loneliness can happen to anyone. Research shows that 51% of people in Australia feel socially disconnected in some way. Around 1 in 5 people experience both loneliness and social isolation.

Small actions can help someone feel seen, included and supported.

Ways to get involved – visit lonelinessawarenessweek.com.au and:
💬 Check in with someone you have not spoken to in a while.
☕ Invite someone for a coffee, walk or meal.
🧩 Take the Connector Quiz.
📍 Find local events on the connection map.
📚 Share helpful resources with someone who may need them.

This August, let’s make room for connection. Thank you Ending Loneliness Together for your great work!

🤱🧁💛 Midwives, cupcakes and lots of heart!

Our Registered Midwife and Lactation Consultant team came together ahead of World Breastfeeding Week to connect and celebrate the care they give new parents through our Postnatal Service, delivered in partnership with Lukes Tasmania.

And yes… Dianne, our Postnatal Service Coordinator (North), made the breast-themed cupcakes for the team! 🧁

This year’s theme is all about strengthening the support that works. For new parents, that can mean kind words, practical help, trusted advice and a calm professional by their side in those early weeks.

We’re so proud of this wonderful team and the care they bring to families across the North and North West of Tasmania. 👏✨

Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

We recently held another Consumer Advisory Council Healthy Ageing Forum, this time in Launceston.

At the forum, we talked with our northern Consumer Representatives about healthy ageing and what helps people live well as they get older.

We heard that these are some of the things that are important:
🤝 Staying connected
🌱 Getting support early
🏡 Having care close to home

At Salveo Healthcare, we work with consumers, not just make decisions for them.

By listening to people with lived experience, we can better understand what matters most and keep improving care for Tasmanians.

A big thank you to our Consumer Representatives for sharing your time, stories and ideas with us. Your feedback helps guide our work.

It’s ! 🧭📍

Our nursing and allied health team has been out and about again this week, supporting people with their health in homes, workplaces and communities across Tasmania.

This week’s photo gives us a charming church, a cute old sign and a quiet rural setting. ⛪🌿

Here’s your challenge: do you know the Tasmanian town where you’ll find this little church?

Drop your best guess in the comments. 👇

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s reveal!

Men’s Health Week is a great reminder that looking after your health is a strength, not a weakness.

It’s one of the best ways to stay well, connected and able to keep doing the things that matter for ourselves, our families and our communities. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

🗣️ During Men’s Health Week, we were proud to kick off our Salveo Healthcare Consumer Advisory Council Forums, starting in Hobart. These forums are helping us hear directly from our Consumer Representatives about what matters most when it comes to healthy ageing.

The first forum was facilitated by our CEO, Darren Mathewson, and Executive Manager – Clinical, Rosie Beardsley. Our Consumer Representatives shared thoughtful and inspiring reflections on men’s health, ageing well and staying connected in their communities.

They reminded us that healthy ageing is about more than health services. It’s also about connection, being involved, having support and feeling confident to take action early.

These conversations will help shape the way we support Tasmanians to live well as they age.

📍 Next stop: Launceston, where we’ll meet with our northern Consumer Representatives to hear what ageing well means to them.
