Hello and welcome a space of sharing ideas, knowledge, resources, information and inspiration, and my passion for self-determining health outcomes, traditional foods and Indigenous food sovereignty.! My name is Tracy Hardy, I'm a Gamilaroi woman, dietitian/nutritionist and founder of Wattleseed Nutrition, Health and Wellbeing. The views and opinions expressed on this page are solely my own and do

not express the views or opinions of DA or those I subcontract too." I have completed a Professional Certificate in Indigenous Research, the Poche Leadership Fellows Program, a Wayapa Wuurrk Diploma, a Permaculture Design Certicate and a Certicificate in Aboriginal Narrative Therapy. I have also participated in extensive professional development training, i.e. For more information on my qualifications and experience, please do connect on LinkedIn - Tracy Hardy. In 2014, I decided that I wanted to be a part of the change I wanted to see, I decided to combine my passion for First Nation peoples' health and wellbeing and love of food and nutrition & commenced my studies in Nutrition & Dietetics. In 2017, I completed my embedded honours research proposal in collaboration with the Primary Health Network, Sunshine Coast, evaluating the cultural safety of a chronic disease self-management program adapted for First Nation peoples in Australia. I am one of the few dietitians in Australia who identifies as a First Nations woman. I work in partnership with individuals, groups and communities to build capacity & improve nutrition related health outcomes through a holistic, earth based and culturally centred lens. I strongly advocate for more Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander allied health students studying to become professionals who are able build rapport in community, & provide examples that counteract negative stereotypes. I have a passion for native bushfoods, food systems and healing practices as well as a strong interest in public health nutrition and the prevention side of dietetics. I am excited to see an emerging awareness, acceptance & consumption of traditional foods. There is strong evidence regarding consumption of traditional foods, connection to culture, Indigenous food sovereignty & improvements in community empowerment, health & social & emotional wellbeing.

This year marks ‘50 Years of Deadly’, five decades of NAIDOC Week. For 50 years, NAIDOC themes have spoken to survival, resistance, culture and pride. They have honoured Elders and leaders, celebrated creativity, and challenged the nation to listen, reckon and act. Each theme has marked a moment in time, capturing where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were, and where the country needs to pay attention.

The newly released social justice report, A Fair and Just Future for First Peoples, aligns closely with these goals by amplifying the voices of more than 1,600 First Peoples and outlining a vision for a future grounded in self-determination, dignity, equality and human rights.

The report highlights the importance of community-led solutions, genuine partnership with governments, truth-telling and addressing systemic barriers that continue to impact First Peoples. Through its Blueprint for change, and 25 recommendations, it provides a pathway towards lasting reform and improved outcomes for future generations.

You can read the report on our website - https://loom.ly/_ia7xI0

Racism in the Australian healthcare system is widely recognized as a public health emergency. It limits access to care, drives chronic illness, and leads to premature death, disproportionately affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

CALL IT OUT: A FIRST NATIONS RACISM REGISTER

Call It Out is a simple and secure way for people to report incidents of racism and discrimination towards First Nations Peoples. These reports are collected, held securely and analysed by Jumbunna Research to inform annual reports to help raise awareness and drive systematic change.

All reports of racism and discrimination can be made to Call It Out: anything that you feel is unfair or unjust towards First Nations People based on race can be reported (e.g. interpersonal or structural bias, prejudice, or discrimination).

Let’s have a yarn about the commercial determinants of health!

About this study:

We are doing a study to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ views on how the commercial sector impacts health and wellbeing.

What is this research about?

The commercial sector, including big corporations and private companies can impact our health in different ways. Some companies promote unhealthy products, while others lobby governments to try and influence decision making. We don’t know much about how companies influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health or what needs to be done to reduce the impact of the commercial sector on our wellbeing.

To learn more, we are doing a study to yarn with Mob across Australia.

We are currently recruiting Mob from Queensland, New South Wales, Norther Territory, South Australia, Tasmania and ACT.

If you are over 18 years, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and are keen to take part, please contact me at [email protected]

We are looking forward to yarning with you and hearing your views.
