You will struggle if you don’t prepare for your session …
I haven’t eaten today, but I’ve just had a coffee..
I don’t need water, I’ve been to a sauna before..
I’ve had some water earlier, that will be enough..
… I’ll be fine, I’ll be alright … it often isn’t!

You need to prepare! Yes, sauna is a relaxing experience, but your body works hard during your session. It’s import to fuel it before, during, and after.

>>> You absolutely need to drink 2 litres of water (or more) during your 2- hour session. Bring a water bottle and consider adding electrolytes.

>> Have a snack or a light breakfast if you sauna in the morning >>> coffee and an empty stomach do not mix well with extreme hot/cold temperatures

> Do avoid large meals right before your session as your body is busy digesting, which increases your heart rate. Pushing it with a sweat will not feel good.

When done right, sauna will leave you feeling incredible!

We spend our days pushing buttons… phones, elevators, coffee machines. Automation makes life easier in countless ways, but some moments are meant to stay hands-on.

Pouring water onto sauna rocks isn’t just about heat and humidity, it’s about preserving a simple, human connection to the whole experience.

There’s something deeply satisfying in the ritual… the sound, the scent, the rising warmth that no button can replicate.

Offer a ladle or two!
Ever sitting in the hot room and wondering what’s missing? Steam (Löyly) is what makes sauna so enjoyable.. if you’re not sure when to throw water on the rocks, offer a ladle as you enter and leave the sauna!

If you’re sitting next to the bucket, don’t be shy, check with the room (especially the top bench) and add some steam to the hot room!

No Steam. No Sauna

As you all may know, three years ago, we kicked off a new sauna culture in Australia, and we couldn’t have done it without people who believe in what we do!

>>> We saw a desperate need for a better understanding of how to sauna, and we still do! It’s been incredible to see new places popping up.. and boy have they been inspired by us.

>> But, we’ve always known that there is more to sauna culture than just building a hot box.

> It’s our mission to bring you as much of the world of sauna, all in one place, and to make it uniquely Australian, right here in the Blue Mountains.

♨️So, where do you come in?❄️

Well, we’re just two sauna-preneurs who love the good heat and how much it does for people. As with our first build, there are no banks or investors involved, just the power of crowd funding.

> Our final, limited presale is now live to help us finish off the last stage of the current expansion.

>> As a thank you for your support, the presale pricing still reflects the current offering, but we can’t even begin to describe how much more there is to come.

>>> This is now your chance to stock up on passes for yourself and loved ones, just in time for the long winter.

We are so incredibly thankful for your support and cannot wait to see you in the new space!
With love,
Nikita and Inga 🫶

Snot rockets.. at home only!

Sauna Etiquette Part 5:
> Runny nose in the shower? Totally normal.. heat and steam loosen everything up. As you rinse off sweat and wash your face, it's natural to need a quick clear out.

But please... keep it classy!

> If you need to clear your nose, grab a tissue or do it discretely under the water stream.. no snot rockets!

We all share the space, let's keep it clean and pleasant for everyone ♨️❄️

Have you seen these signs: NO WATER ON THE ROCKS

Unfortunately, a lot of public facilities prohibit throwing water on the sauna stones, and there are a few reasons for that…

Follow our ‘S’ series to get the most out of your Sit Sweat Chill Repeat™ session.

‘S’ for Steam

Löyly brings the sauna to life, so why do other facilities forbid it?
> It’s one of the three ingredients of the holy trinity of a proper hot room (optimal temperature, steam, and good ventilation)… but most facilities don’t take this seriously and treat the sauna as a (lukewarm) hot box, rather than the ancient tradition that it is.
> As temperatures are often not high enough, any water poured on the rocks doesn’t evaporate, cools the sauna stones even more, and can damage the electrical elements.
> Sauna visitors tend to continue throwing water on, hoping that it will increase the heat, achieving the opposite.

Löyly awakens the spirit of the sauna! It doesn’t increase the temperature, it simply increases the humidity, and envelopes your body in a cloud of steam.

Spiritual puns aside, it’s like seasoning for your meal… yes, it provides your body with benefits, but it’s so much more enjoyable with some flavour.

PS: It’s polite to offer Löyly as you enter and exit the sauna!

If you have never experienced true European sauna in tandem with an ice cold plunge, there are a few things you should know … and no, infrared doesn’t count!

Follow our ‘S’ series to get the most out of your sit sweat chill repeat session.

‘S’ for Sensation

♨️ Our saunas are set to 90 degrees Celsius (yes, CELSIUS) and while you may think that sitting and sweating is all you are doing, your cardiovascular workout has already begun.

> Your heart rate elevates to an average of 130bpm.
> Your circulation increases as your blood vessels widen.
> You sit, you sweat, you may even feel a bit stressed … this is a normal response, but if you’re experiencing light-headedness, take a break and rehydrate.

😵‍💫 This is not to be confused with the head-spins following the cold plunge!

After leaving the hot room, have a cold shower to allow your body to adjust to the extreme temperature change before jumping into the icy water.

> Long, slow breaths will help you to stay calm while your body and mind deal with the initial shock.
> Your heart rate slows down.
> Your feet and hands may hurt as the blood moves from your extremities to your major organs.
> It is common to experience head spins after you get out of the cold plunge. Take a seat, close your eyes and enjoy the natural high.

😌 This is why resting is so important between rounds, and our team here at publicsauna.co is always close by to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Sauna Etiquette Part 2:
A communal sauna is great for cleansing the body and mind … any type of grooming, however, does not belong in a shared space. Always respect the hot room and the people you sweat with.
