Nested Hearts We nurture growth, healing, and connection through relational, neuro-affirming and trauma-responsive therapy.

Supporting children, young people, adults, families, and professionals. Individual & Family Therapy, Training & Supervision. Nested Hearts is the therapeutic practice of Sarah Daley, an experienced Child & Family Therapist, Registered Play Therapist (APPTA) and Accredited Social Worker (AASW) with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Child Play Therapy. Sarah provides child and family therapy with children and young people aged 2 to 16 years of age and their families. Sarah is now also working with adults offering Relational-Integrated EMDR. RI-EMDR is a powerful therapeutic approach that combines the proven effectiveness of attachment informed EMDR with the depths of Resource Therapy (parts work) and Somatic/Polyvagal work. If you are struggling to be the parent you want to be because of childhood wounds, RI-EMDR is an incredibly effective approach that helps you heal from past wounds and improve current relationships so you can be the parent you want to be. This is an incredibly nurturing and gentle therapy, and as an experienced child therapist, I am skilled at nurturing those child parts in you that are still hurting. Nested Hearts is a neuro-affirming and inclusive practice, where cultural humility is practiced at all times. Nested Hearts provides therapeutic services for children and young people under the NDIS and Sarah is also an accredited NSW Victim Services provider specialising in working with children, young people and adults who have experienced developmental and relational trauma. Sarah has experience in individual, family, group and community work and is available to facilitate training on request.

Not every voice within us belongs to us.

In many parts modalities, the critical or shaming voice we take in from others is understood as a part, or an aspect of a part, that has taken on someone else’s voice or burden. Healing focuses on helping that part let go of what it carries so it can return to its natural role within the system.

In Relational Integrative Parts Therapy (RIPT™), we see it differently. An introject is not a part, it is an internalised impression completely its own. It is something taken in from outside the self. Sometimes it is the impression of a person, such as a perpetrator, a caregiver or a religious authority. Sometimes it is a message absorbed from family, culture or society: who we are allowed to be, what we must never feel, whose lives are valued. It may also arrive through colonisation or be passed down through generations.

An introject may attach itself to a single part, or it may roam through the system, causing harm and discomfort to many parts.

So we gently recognise the introject, differentiate it from the parts it affects, and then follow the wishes of the part. Sometimes the part longs for repair, and where capacity is limited, intergenerational work with the introject can help build it. Sometimes the part wishes the introject gone. This release may be compassionate, honouring the introject’s journey as it moves on to where it truly belongs. Or, when the part needs it, the release may be firm and decisive. All of this unfolds through imagery and the felt sense in the body. And always, the part comes first. An introject is never prioritised over the part and what the part needs.

If this way of working speaks to you, we warmly invite you to register your interest in our upcoming RIPT trainings by emailing us at [email protected].

For clinicians already working with parts and introjects, our supervision group Between Light and Shadow offers a space to explore this work together, online in monthly two-hour sessions over four months.

Email us your interest and we will reserve your spot and then let you know when our new website goes live in a couple of weeks where you can register. You will then have your own portal log on which will keep track of the trainings you do with us. So excited for our new website

This is such good news for survivors and access to EMDR therapy when engaging in legal proceedings.

📢 The Queensland Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has removed its guideline that specifically grouped EMDR with hypnosis and regression therapy and warned that evidence falling within the guideline was likely to be excluded from trial. 📢

We welcome this change as an important step toward ensuring prosecutorial guidance reflects contemporary law and scientific evidence on memory.

Earlier this year, EMDRAA raised concerns directly with the Queensland ODPP and asked for the EMDR-specific reference to be removed. We also brought the issue to ABC Radio National's The Law Report with Damien Carrick, where legal scholar Dr Christopher Rudge supported our reading of the relevant case law. When contacted for comment, the Queensland ODPP confirmed the guideline would be removed.

On 29 September, the ODPP released revised Director’s Guidelines and a new Sexual Violence Prosecution Handbook. EMDR is no longer singled out in either document.

We recognise that prosecution guidelines are only one part of the broader challenges victim-survivors can face in accessing justice. However, public-facing guidance can influence how law enforcement, legal professionals and trauma services understand the risks associated with therapy. Removing unsupported EMDR-specific cautions is an important step toward broader system change.

The New South Wales ODPP is now the only Australian jurisdiction with an explicit reference to EMDR therapy in its published prosecution guidelines.

EMDRAA has met with the NSW ODPP and made a submission seeking removal of that reference, and we will continue to engage with them on this issue.

We would also like to acknowledge the fierce advocacy of Dr Katie Bird and Tess Hassell, who shared their personal experiences of the impact that concerns about EMDR therapy had on their legal matters and helped bring national attention to this issue. We are incredibly grateful for their courage and resolve in seeking better outcomes for other victim-survivors in Australia.

This! Thank you Curious Me Rethinking the use of calm down corners use them as a regulating space associated with calm not a place associated with punishment. Support children to notice what their body needs and go there with them dont send them there alone. Children regulate in relationship not isolation. If a child wants to be alone let that be their choice not their punishment.

I want to share the poem that I created at the Restoring Resilience and We Al-li Programs Recreating Songlings from Trauma Trails with Somatic Experiencing International on the weekend inspired by Aunty Judy Atkinson. I so enjoyed writing this poem, and even read it out with the hand of Aunty Judy on my back letting me know the ancestors had me! This was such an awesome process, as soon as I got home I did this with my children and husband and had them also create their own poems. So interesting to see how much they all enjoyed it as well. I will definitely be introducing this into my sessions with children both in groups and individually! Woah! Powerful stuff!

I am a star in the night sky, dreaming.
I am a green frog swimming in the water in the border ranges.
