Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers and Dovida Gold Coast is proud to support Dementia Inclusive Ballina servicing Northern Rivers.❤️

Since 2023, our wonderful staff travel from the Gold Coast, Tweed and Northern Rivers coming together to spend the day at Bunnings Ballina helping this fantastic volunteer-led organisation raise much-needed funds.

And we’re doing it all over again this Saturday, 12 September from 8:30am until the last sausage is sizzled at 3:30pm.

Come on down, grab a sausage and a drink, and support Dementia Inclusive Ballina. ❤️

It’s set to be a glorious spring day, and we can’t wait to see you there. Bring your appetite! 😂🌭

A big thank you to Vicki Hughes from Seniors Rights Service and Virginia Beaufort from Rainbow Region Dementia Doula for speaking at today’s Parkinson's NSW Murwillumbah Parkinson’s Support Group today.

It’s important for people living with Parkinson’s and their carers to know what support is available in our community, as well as the variety of services and resources that may be available to them.

Everyone’s Parkinson’s journey is different, and their needs can vary greatly. Having access to the right information, support and connections can make such a difference.

Thank you, Vicki and Virginia, for sharing your knowledge and helping our group better understand the support available within our community. 💙

Thanks to Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers’ for supporting the group each month and to Mel from Balance Mobility and Mitch from Agile Exercise Physiology who bring specialist knowledge each month that is invaluable to all those that attend.

With the Northern Rivers having a higher prevalence of Parkinson’s disease than the national average, it’s so important that we recognise those living with Parkinson’s in our community with dignity, understanding and respect.

As Michael J. Fox so powerfully reminds us, people living with Parkinson’s don’t need to be “fixed”. They need to be supported, understood and valued for who they are.

Take a moment to watch Michael’s post. His words are a powerful reminder that Parkinson’s may be part of someone’s life, but it does not define who they are. 💙

Making the Most of Your Memory 🧠

Tuesday, 1 September, marked the first of six sessions in the “Making the Most of Your Memory” program for people living with mild cognitive impairment.

The program was developed following geriatrician Dr Rachel Jones’ recognition of the need for a dedicated program to support people living with mild cognitive impairment. Together with Anne Moehead, Chair of Dementia Inclusive Ballina servicing Northern Rivers, the program provides practical education, tips and strategies to help participants improve their memory and remember and retain information that can be useful in everyday life.

Anne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program, with 45 years in nursing and the health sector, including her experience as a nurse practitioner.

The six-week program also brings together a range of people with valuable knowledge and experience, with different guest contributors joining throughout the sessions, including Southern Cross University students and Ian Johnston, retired academic, geropsychologist and dementia specialist.

Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers are incredibly grateful to Rachel, Anne and the team at Dementia Inclusive Ballina for welcoming us and allowing us to participate in this valuable six-week program.

For our team, it’s a wonderful opportunity to listen, learn and broaden our understanding of mild cognitive impairment and dementia, helping us to continue building our knowledge and providing meaningful support to people living in our local community.

Tuesday’s first session was incredibly informative, and we’re looking forward to the next five weeks.

Thank you, Rachel, Anne and the Dementia Inclusive Ballina team, for sharing your knowledge with us and for allowing Dovida to be part of this important initiative. 💜

Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers proudly supports Parkinson’s support groups throughout the region, with our Community Liaison Manager facilitating the Parkinson's NSW Murwillumbah Parkinson’s Support Group.

As part of her Community Liaison role, Leigh regularly attends the Lismore Parkinson's Support Group facilitated by Marie Dudgeon and her grandson, Brayden. 💙

The group was joined at today’s meeting by guest speaker Dr Ruaridh Smail (pictured below with Marie), a neurologist working from consulting suites in Lismore and Bangalow and servicing the Northern Rivers.

The group also welcomed regular attendee Tim Ayers, one of only two Parkinson’s nurses working from the Movement Disorder Clinic attached to Ballina District Hospital.

Information sharing, connection and access to expert knowledge are so important within the Parkinson’s community, helping people living with Parkinson’s, carers and families feel informed and supported.

Thank you, Dr Smail, for sharing your expertise with the group today. We’re delighted to announce that he’ll also be joining the Parkinson’s NSW Murwillumbah Parkinson’s Support Group in February. We look forward to welcoming him!

Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers we love supporting social engagement for our seniors across the Northern Rivers. And none does it quite so well as Beating Hearts of Lismore, run by our very own geriatrician, Dr Rachel Jones.

Beating Hearts meets every Monday, and once a month, they are joined by the fabulous students and teachers from Corndale Public School for a wonderful intergenerational connection.

It’s a delight for young and old alike when they come together — sharing laughter, movement, music and plenty of smiles. ❤️

These connections are so valuable, reminding us that community, friendship and joy truly have no age limit.

It was wonderful to visit the Helensvale Parkinson’s Support Group yesterday and see such a fantastic turnout.

We had the privilege of hearing from guest speaker Dr. Heshmat, one of the Gold Coast’s leading neurologists specialising in Parkinson’s research and treatment. With more than 50 attendees, it was an excellent turnout and a wonderful opportunity to connect with so many people within the Parkinson’s community.

Facilitated by David McCurdy from Dovida Gold Coast I was grateful for the invitation and thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an informative, engaging, and supportive morning.

At Dovida Gold Coast and Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers we are passionate about supporting our local community through our ongoing involvement with Parkinson's QLD as well as our continued involvement with Parkinson's NSW support groups throughout the Northern Rivers region.

This includes supporting and helping facilitate the Helensvale Parkinson’s Support Group and the Palm Beach Parkinson’s Support Group, as well as facilitating the Murwillumbah Parkinson’s Support Group within our own region.

We also regularly attend a number of other Parkinson’s support groups across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers, ensuring we remain connected with people living with Parkinson’s, their families, and carers.

This ongoing involvement is so important because Parkinson’s presents in many different ways, and each person’s journey is unique, complex, and often very different from another’s. By staying connected with support groups and the broader Parkinson’s community, we gain a deeper understanding of the challenges individuals and families face and are better able to provide education, support, advocacy, and meaningful connections that help people navigate their Parkinson’s journey with greater confidence and support.

A big thank you to everyone involved in making these groups such welcoming, informative, and valuable community spaces. 💙

Dovida Tweed & Northern Rivers would like to congratulate everyone who has made Shine On Wollumbin, the social singing group for over 65s, such a wonderful success, and to celebrate its very first birthday — what a fantastic milestone.

The group has certainly grown over the past 12 months, and this achievement would not have been possible without the support of so many people and organisations. A heartfelt thank you goes to Beating Hearts of Lismore, Southern Cross University, staff and students, the amazing musicians and volunteers who turn up each and every week, Le from Northern NSW Local Health District who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and everyone who has contributed to making this such a fabulous group. Special thanks also to Dave and his team at Condong Bowling Club for their ongoing support and hospitality.

Getting together is fundamentally important for us as social beings, and as we age, maintaining those social connections becomes even more valuable for our health and wellbeing.

We are incredibly proud to be associated with Shine on Wollumbin and look forward to seeing the group continue to grow, thrive, and bring joy to our community for many years to come.
