Did you know a cognitive assessment does not have to be about a diagnosis?

For many families, it is simply about understanding how their child learns best.

Every child has a unique cognitive profile. Some children are strong visual learners. Others retain information better through listening, movement or repetition. A cognitive assessment maps all of this out clearly, so you and their teachers are working with the same picture.

It can help with:
✔ Understanding your child's individual learning style
✔ Informing school learning support plans
✔ Identifying areas of strength alongside areas for support
✔ Giving teachers practical strategies that actually fit your child

You do not need a referral and you do not need to have a big concern.

If you have questions about whether a cognitive assessment is right for your family, reach out. We are happy to talk it through before you take the next steps.

This one is for the parents, grandparents, and carers who are holding everything together. 🤍

Caring for a child with big needs is one of the most demanding things a person can do. It asks everything of you, often with very little recognition and very little rest.

But here is something worth sitting with: the support you give is only as sustainable as the support you receive.

You do not have to be in crisis to deserve help. You just have to be human.

At Cherished Minds, we work with the whole family. If you are a carer who needs a space to breathe, talk and reset, we would love to hear from you.

Screen time isn't just about how long, what else can we do as parents/carers to help with managing screen time?

1. Co-view when you can. Watching together opens conversation and helps you understand what your child is absorbing.
2. Build transition time. A 5-10 minute warning before screens off makes a real difference for kids who struggle to switch off.
3. Watch for displacement. If screens are consistently replacing sleep, movement or connection, that is the signal to act and make thoughtful changes.

If screens are a daily battleground in your home, a psychologist can help you understand what is driving it and build a plan to support your child and family.

School support isn’t always about big plans or perfect strategies.

Sometimes it’s sitting with a child when things feel too hard.
Sometimes it’s adjusting expectations for a while.
Sometimes it’s just reminding them, “you’re okay, we’ll figure this out together.”

We see so many young people trying their best in environments that don’t always feel easy for them and so many parents and teachers doing the same.

There’s no one “right” way to support a child at school. It’s often small, consistent, moments that make the biggest difference.

As children return to school this term, if things feel tough, you’re not alone. Support is there and it can start with one small step.

Sundays can feel a bit mixed, can’t they?

Part of you might be enjoying the slower pace… and part of you might already be thinking about the week ahead.

Wherever you’re at today, that’s okay.

Maybe it’s a day for a quiet coffee, a walk, or just giving yourself permission to do very little. You don’t have to have everything sorted before Monday.

At Cherished Minds, we’re here to support you through the busy weeks and the slower moments in between.

Take today as it comes 🤍

Understanding How Your Child Learns 🧠

Sometimes children work very hard at school but still find learning, attention, or organisation difficult. A cognitive assessment can help understand how your child thinks, learns, and processes information.

At Cherished Minds Psychology, our comprehensive cognitive assessments provide clear insights into your child’s strengths, learning style, and areas where support may be needed.

A cognitive assessment can help with:
• Understanding learning difficulties
• Identifying strengths and thinking styles
• Supporting school planning and adjustments
• Clarifying concerns about attention or processing
• Guiding the right supports and interventions

Our psychologists provide a detailed report and feedback session, with practical recommendations that families and schools can use to better support learning and development.

✨ NDIS Registered Provider – we support self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants.

If you’re concerned about your child’s learning or development, an assessment can provide valuable answers and direction.
