The Institute’s medical research programs have a translational focus, with results from our medical research transformed into direct health benefits. Our research is applied in the form of new medical treatments and therapies in hospitals and health programs for the community. The Institute has over 350 researchers exploring new medical approaches across:
- Cancer (from biology to technology and p

atient support programs)
- Clinical Sciences (treatments for Diabetes, Stroke, Respiratory and Autoimmune diseases)
- Population & Health Services (studies into Women’s Health, Nursing practices, and Early Childhood)
- Injury & Rehabilitation (rehabilitation for Brain Injury and Orthopaedic surgery)
- Mental Health (therapies for Autism, Schizophrenia, Learning Development Disorders)
- Robotics and Health Technology (redefining eHealth, remote surgery and patient care). In addition to the six research streams, the Ingham Institute provides over 500 Clinical Trials to more than 2,500 patients. We are forefront of the most advanced medical breakthroughs and clinical discoveries and are committed to saving and improving lives. Our facilities enable world-first research, training and technology to be explored and developed. Ultimately we redefine and improve the treatment of disease and inform the nature of care across numerous health conditions.

Every child is full of potential. And together we can make sure that potential is never left unrealised.

Through early childhood research focused right here in South Western Sydney, we are helping children get the support they need to grow, learn and flourish.

Because when children thrive, families thrive. And when families thrive, so do our communities.

This EOFY, your gift helps us continue that work.

Congratulations to Dr Chamini Perera, Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney and Past Chair and Founding Deputy Chair of the Ingham Institute Post-doctoral Association, on receiving an Olink Proteomics Award 2026 for her abstract, “Pancreatic Cancer Related Diabetes: Towards Early Cancer Detection Through Biomarker Discovery.”

This international recognition highlights Dr Perera’s contribution to advancing pancreatic cancer research and biomarker discovery. Her achievement highlights the strength of pancreatic cancer research being undertaken within our community.

Congratulations, Chamini!

For families from culturally diverse backgrounds, getting a child the support they need can feel like navigating a system that was never built for them.

Language barriers, cost, and distance all stand in the way of care that every child deserves.

The work happening at Ingham Institute is focused on dismantling those barriers. New research is reshaping how children in communities like ours are identified and supported, so that a family's background or postcode no longer determines the quality of care their child receives.

This EOFY, your gift helps fund the research that gives every child a fairer start.

Final days to get involved in the 2026 Health Beyond Research and Innovation Showcase, a joint initiative of South Western Sydney Local Health District and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research.

Whether you're submitting an abstract, joining the abstract review panel, or registering to attend, now is the time to be part of a showcase focused on prevention, innovation, and research that aims to reduce the burden of chronic disease and improve health outcomes for our communities.

Abstract submissions and reviewer expressions of interest close at 11.59pm Monday, 8 June.

We look forward to bringing together researchers, clinicians, innovators, and partners from across the sector and hope to see you there.

Your odds shouldn’t depend on your postcode.

Access to equitable healthcare should be a right for all Aussie kids. To give every child a chance to thrive, we are developing new models of care that respond to each child’s individual level of need, ensuring children facing the greatest disadvantage receive the greatest support.

Not the same support as everyone else, but the right support for them.

This EOFY, your gift helps fund the research that gives every child a fairer start.

This week is National Reconciliation Week 2026.

A time to learn, reflect, and take action. This year's theme is All In, a reminder that reconciliation isn't a spectator sport. It takes all of us, every day.

A big thank you to Viren Joseph and Adam Strickland for welcoming us to the whiteboard workshop and tour of the Microsoft Innovation Centre.

It was a valuable day of collaboration, bringing together Microsoft, Unity Grammar, and Ingham Institute to put our heads together and explore new opportunities for partnership. Together, we’re shaping ideas that could help drive the future of STEM and health tech innovation across South Western Sydney.

We’re excited by the conversations sparked today and can’t wait to see what lies ahead as we work together to create new pathways for innovation, research and opportunity.

A warm welcome to Professor Reema Harrison, our new Research Director, who introduced herself at this week’s Town Hall.

It was wonderful to have so many staff join us for the session and meet-and-greet at the Perich Centre. Reema is looking forward to connecting with teams across the Institute, learning more about the incredible research underway, and supporting the impact our work is making across healthcare and the community.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make Reema feel so welcome.

Earlier this week, the Ingham Institute Postdoctoral Association hosted a Lunch & Learn seminar with Fizza Rasheed, presenting her research on the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry for diagnosing and monitoring plasma cell disorders.

Fizza is a third-year PhD researcher at Western Sydney University, focused on liquid biopsy methodologies for Multiple Myeloma. Her research aims to improve early diagnosis and non-invasive disease monitoring by identifying key biomarkers and advancing more accurate blood-based assessments for Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) monitoring.

A special thank you to MP Biomedicals and Pacific Laboratory Products for their generous sponsorship and support of this event.

It was a pleasure to welcome the next generation of the Perich family to the Perich Centre for Robotics and Health Technology at the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research in Liverpool, where they saw firsthand how their family’s generosity is creating meaningful change in healthcare for our community and beyond. Their ongoing support continues to drive innovation with the potential to improve lives locally and around the world.

During presentations from Dr Hao Tran and Dr Sharon Kay, the family enjoyed fascinating insights into heart health and emerging medical technology. One of the highlights of the visit came with a delightful surprise when a future Perich family member appeared on the remote ultrasound screen, offering a glimpse into technology that could transform ultrasounds by making them more compact, portable and accessible.
