🤍 A sensory Assessment is an evidence-based tool that measures how a child manages all the information they receive from their senses; noises, sights, tastes & smells, touch, movement & body position.

Sensory Assessments can help us to learn what particular senses a child can tolerate & what they need more or less of to feel regulated & happy!

They can help us to learn why particular activities may be trickie, what sensory input they are sensitive to & why they respond the way they do… for example sensitive to touch & running away from a cuddle or sensitive to wet foods & refusing boiled veggies.

Flip the coin & sensory assessments can help us to learn why a child seeks certain input & activities, why they find them enjoyable & why they are so damn good at something! They can make us understand our child’s likes, interests & big & beautiful strengths for example loving the sensation of any change in position so seeking vestibular movement & becoming an incredible gymnast, in turn regulating their nervous system.

Sensory Assessments looks at how a childs sensory processing influences how they act, behave & function everyday.

O.T’s can help you to gain greater insight & understanding into yours child’s sensory preferences, sometimes develop strategies to gently increase tolerance, maybe provide ideas to modify & adapt environments & activities, make slight changes to interactions… perhaps the way we phrase something all to promote regulation, participation, function & smiles!

🤍 Hello, my name is Lizzie Kearney, I am a community based Private Paediatric Occupational Therapist here in the big & beautiful world of Outback CWQLD, located in Longreach.

The demand for specialised Paeds O.T supports out here is extreme. From what I have learnt, I am the only private Paed O.T within a 4-6 hour radius….let’s sit & think about that!

There are so many of you seeking supports & redirecting you to a wait list is definitely not what I love doing. Lucky us O.T’s typically have an overactive creative thinking brain & so this course is designed to open up avenues & access for Occupational Therapy support by bringing evidence based tips & tools to your parenting practices through an online group space.

This course is ideal for all parents of all children, no matter of your locality.

Please contact me if you’d like support utilising NDIS funding for this course. Otherwise, please click on the eventbrite link provided. Course will be presented each Wednesday in May 8pm-9pm (ideal time for Dads to listen in!)
