Saturday 1 August 2026

Happy 1st of August everyone!

We practiced Metta Meditation, also known as Loving-Kindness Meditation, in our yoga classes this week. As the month was drawing to a close, it was an opportune time to reflect on what we are grateful for. It was also a great time to cultivate kindness and love in our lives.

Loving-kindness meditation has been shown to increase levels of oxytocin, the so-called “love hormone” that plays a role in social bonding, trust, and attachment. As we fill our hearts with kindness and a sense of wellness, we radiate the joy and love to people around us. They in turn spread the kindness to the people around them. In this way, our meditation practice is contributing to an increased positivity in our universe.

Sunday 12 July 2026

Thankful for a week of holiday in my homeland, with a surprise appearance of my little boy! Time with my family is very precious.

Hong Kong is a beautiful city and I am grateful to grow up when it was a free and vibrant place. Sadly beneath its beauty it is no longer such.

Homeward bound now. See everyone back in yoga this coming week!

Friday 3 July 2026

We are so happy to welcome a couple of new participants to our Hatha Yoga class this morning. We practiced mindful movements to strengthen our core and improve balance. It is great to see the connection of this growing group of lovely ladies both on and off the mat.

We also welcomed back a few participants who returned after an extended absence due to injury and illness in our Yin Yoga class last night. The practice of deep stretching not only promotes flexibility it also brings alignment between the body and mind.

I will be away in Hong Kong next week to visit my family. Join us when classes resume on 16 July.

Sun Breaths to Revitalise

Sun Breath warms the body and gets the chi moving. The breathing pattern guides the movement of the arms which acts as a tool to bring more awareness to the body and breath.

The dynamic movement of the arms when coordinated with the breath, helps to lengthen the spine when the arms are stretched upwards, lifting the torso from the base of the spine. This can strengthen and tone the shoulders and upper arms.

Sun Breath is an also gentle heart opener and opens the muscles in the chest region helping to expand the lung capacity.

Finding beauty in the imperfections.

Finding beauty in the imperfections.

One of the most beautiful ideas in Japanese culture is called Wabi-sabi (侘寂).

At its heart, Wabi-sabi is the appreciation of imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity. Rather than chasing flawless beauty, it encourages us to find value in things that have aged, weathered, or been shaped by time.

A famous example is kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding the cracks, they are highlighted. The object is not restored to what it once was—it becomes something new, carrying its history proudly.

This philosophy can be seen throughout Japan, from weathered wooden temples and traditional tea bowls to carefully tended gardens that embrace the changing seasons.

In a world that often pushes perfection, Wabi-sabi offers a different perspective:

The things that have been tested, repaired, and shaped by experience may be the most beautiful of all. 🇯🇵

Sunday 31 May 2026

In both our Hatha and Yin Yoga classes this week, we practised Metta Meditation, also known as loving-kindness meditation.

We also enjoyed a Yoga Nidra meditation in our Restorative Yoga session this afternoon. It was great to welcome back a couple of ladies who had an extended absence as well as welcome a new participant who was introduced from their friend. It brought me so much joy hearing from our participants that they found the yoga classes exactly what they needed to reset and replenish their body.
