This term our Sensory Stories Group at Pennyweight are enjoying a multi-sensory re-telling of “A Very Hungry Caterpillar”.

This wonderful story gives us the opportunity to interpret it using different mediums to engage and stimulate interest with our customers. One highlight for our customers was the fun way the brightly coloured parachute was used to imitate the butterfly wings at the end of the story. We were especially thrilled when one of our customers, Tania, connected with the story using her eye-gaze device.

This program continues to demonstrate the awesome collaboration between our therapy team and our support team, who together bring these captivating stories to life.

Winter coughs, colds and seasonal bugs are doing the rounds at the moment, and we want everyone in our community to stay as healthy and well as possible.

If you are feeling unwell, it can be difficult to get the most out of your therapy appointment or group program.

If you have a cold, cough or any other contagious illness, the kindest thing you can do for yourself and others is to stay home, rest and recover. This helps you feel your best for your next session and also helps protect vulnerable members of our community.

If you are unwell, please give us a call so we can reschedule your session. There is no cancellation fee for therapy sessions cancelled with at least 2 working days’ notice. Group program cancellations are managed in line with NDIS guidelines.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe, healthy and cared for.

She has worked in various roles within the disability sector for over four years – as a Support Worker, Allied Health Assistant and now a Speech Pathologist.

Liv is excited to be a part of the supportive and knowledgeable Pinarc team, where her professional interests are encouraged and developed.

July is Disability Pride Month

You may ask 'what is disability pride month'? Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July. It commemorates the passing of the 'Americans with Disabilities Act' in July 1990 which made discrimination against people with disabilities illegal in the USA. It serves as an impetus to honour the culture, history, identities, and contributions of people with disabilities across the world.

The occasion is recognised by the Disability Pride Flag, which features diagonal coloured stripes on a faded charcoal background.

Each colour represents a different aspect of disability:
❤️Red: Physical disabilities
💛 Yellow: Neurodiversity and developmental disabilities
🤍White: Non-visible and undiagnosed disabilities
💙Blue: Psychosocial disabilities
💚Green: Sensory disabilities
🩶Charcoal background: Symbolises mourning and remembrance
