I see so many of these comorbidities amongst my Lipoedema clients, it's good to see more being recognised and the connection between.

Did you know that lipoedema is often associated with other health conditions?

These are known as comorbidities, and being aware of them can help with recognising symptoms and guiding more comprehensive care.

Commonly reported comorbidities:
🟣Lymphoedema
🟣Chronic venous disease / Vascular disease
🟣Obesity
🟣Hypothyroidism
🟣Depression
🟣Anxiety
🟣ADHD/Autism
🟣Fibromyalgia
🟣Hypermobility / Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), women with this comorbidity commonly experience migraines and gastrointestinal issues
🟣Allergies
🟣Early degenerative leg joint disease
🟣Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and/or Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)
🟣Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously known as polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS)
🟣Endometriosis
🟣Vitamin D deficiency

This is another page I recommend to so many of my clients! Kelly explains the lymphatic system so well and has some fanstastic self care videos both on here and YouTube. I love that our own ALERT program run at Macquarie University in Sydney gets a big shout out in this post for their incredible research into where the lymph flows post surgery.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Caitlin Czezowski and recommend her videos and tutorials to lots of my clients! I love this visual analogy of a dehydrated sponge and our fascia. I often talk about a fishing net in the same context - when in the ocean and hydrated its soft and flowing, if lying dried out on the beach it's coarse and difficult to move. Stay hydrated!

Fantastic to have more training accessible for our GPs. Please share the link to raise awareness 💕

We are excited to announce the RACGP has just launched their first training package on lipoedema, created by a number of experts in lipoedema, including our Advisory Board Member Megan Pfeffer.

The training includes 5 case studies, each worth 2 hours of CPD, equalling 10 hours in total. It builds a solid foundation in lipoedema, including pathophysiology, differential diagnoses, co-morbidities and conservative care.

Next time you see your GP, please mention this training (save this post to show them the link or QR code) and encourage them to complete it. It is a huge step toward better outcomes for people living with lipoedema.

We encourage GPs who have completed the training to join Lipoedema Australia's new Professional Membership program for additional learning opportunities and inclusion in our directory of practitioners, so others with lipoedema are able to find providers who offer diagnosis, knowledge, care, and empathy.

What perfect timing for the launch of such impactful training, right at the start of Lipoedema Awareness Month.
