Last week at the Whitsunday literary dinner, phenomenal guest speaker Jelena Dokic said 'you need someone to believe in you'. With moving into the WHPM clinic, I have found an incredible group of talented and kind women who lift up each other and their clients. It is such a warm and nurturing space and the perfect one for the families and little people I support. I'm so glad to be here!

New product on the shelf - The Mimos Pillow!

Petite Physiotherapy is now a stockist for the Mimos Pillow for the treatment of flat heads in babies. It is a research backed medical grade pillow to prevent and correct a positional head deformity in babies. Physiotherapy is essential to treat underlying issues, while the pillow allows for pressure relief and skull remodelling while baby plays and sleeps.

Let's re-think of tummy time as 'antigravity movement' time!

When you're at the gym, if your weights are too heavy, you get a lighter weight. For our newborn babies with their proportionally big heads, if we bring them closer to upright, there is less gravity = less weight).

My favourite 'antigravity' positions for newborn babies are mostly not on the floor. Think:
- cuddles propping high over your shoulder (great for gas and burps too)
- snuggles on your chest in your recliner
- rocking on your birthing ball
- propped up on your feeding pillow.

If your baby is not happy on their tummy, there will be a reason (eg. a body restriction making it uncomfortable). At Petite, we will help find the cause, because we know that babies need positive engagement for learning, not tears. Reach out if your baby is struggling!

Flat heads in babies: Its more than just ‘turning the head the other way’!
What did we treat?
1. Body range of motion for a packaging restriction
2. Visual tracking skills
3. Motor skills
Did the flat spot resolve? Yes – within a few months.
A flat head is evidence of an underlying issue for your baby – we have to find and treat the cause, not just the symptom!
