We have had the honour to host several work experience students recently. Marcus from Whitsunday Anglican School, and Lily and Eliza from Catherine McAuley College. The students have had a wonderful experience learning all about Primary Care and even got to assist in some skills. Their balloon making skills were exceptional! Today our little 2 year old friend Hugh had his Flumist Influenza vaccine via the nose. It was gentle and quick. Whilst a little uncomfortable at first, Hugh was quickly smiling at everyone. If you would like to try this alternative to a needle, please call reception and book your child in.

We are currently facing a horrendous flu season this year so please consider this simple way to protect your little ones.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest GP Registrar, Dr Sam Wallace.

Sam is an ACRRM Rural Generalist who has worked between Mackay and Proserpine for the last 5 years. After spending the last few years working in critical care and emergency roles completing training for the Rural Generalist Anaesthesia (RGA) program, he has finally commenced work in general practice. Sam is excited to bring the knowledge he has gained from his career so far to Southside.

A desire to be a "jack of all trades" has driven most of Sam's experience seeking as a Doctor. Whilst he can't sit still, he has always aspired to contribute as a family Doctor as part of his career. He is pursuing further training in mental health, women's health, skin cancer detection/management and palliative care.

When he's not at work Sam enjoys (being taken by his mates) fishing, rugby, golf and cooking.

Celebrating Fellowship: A Remarkable Milestone for Our Newest RACGP GP Specialist - Dr Marie Rattenbury 👩‍⚕️

South Side Medical proudly congratulates our newest Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. This is a truly outstanding achievement that reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to patient care.
Becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is no small accomplishment. It represents the completion of an extensive and rigorous journey - one that spans a minimum of eight years of training to specialise in general practice.

This milestone is more than a qualification, it is a testament to determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering dedication to patients and community. Eight years of study, long hours, examinations, and hands-on training culminate in this moment of recognition.

Marie, a Mackay local, began her medical career as a Pharmacist and worked solidly for 12 years in various pharmacy positions. In addition to her pharmacy undergraduate degree, she also completed an additional two post graduate qualifications before embarking on her medical degree. Her commitment to ensuring her knowledge is up to date is evidenced by her most recently completing extra qualifications in Skin Cancer detection and treatment, which she is very passionate about.
It is her constant drive for life long learning that makes her the successful GP she is today.

We celebrate her achievement today and look forward to the many lives she will continue to impact throughout your career.
