👁️✨ CONTACT LENS SAFETY MONTH ✨👁️

Contact lenses are a fantastic way to enjoy clear vision without glasses — but they need to be looked after properly! 👀

This Contact Lens Safety Month, we’re sharing some important DO’s & DON’Ts to help keep your eyes healthy and comfortable. 💙

✅ DO

👋 Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.

🧴 Use fresh contact lens solution every time you clean and store your lenses.

🗓️ Replace your lenses as recommended by your optometrist or according to the replacement schedule.

🧼 Keep your lens case clean and replace it regularly.

👓 Have regular eye examinations and contact lens checks to make sure your lenses remain suitable for your eyes.

🚨 Take your lenses out and seek professional advice if your eyes become red, painful, unusually sensitive to light or your vision changes.

❌ DON’T

🚿 Don’t wear contact lenses while swimming or showering unless specifically advised otherwise.

💧 Don’t rinse or store lenses in tap water. Water can contain microorganisms that may cause serious eye infections.

😴 Don’t sleep in your lenses unless your optometrist has specifically prescribed lenses approved for overnight wear.

🧴 Don’t use saliva or homemade solutions to clean or wet your lenses.

👥 Don’t share your contact lenses with anyone else.

⏰ Don’t wear lenses for longer than recommended or continue using disposable lenses beyond their replacement schedule.

💡 Remember: If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it! Remove your lenses and contact your optometrist for advice.

Your home is your happy place — but is it eye-safe? 👓

This Home Eye Safety Month, we’re reminding you that eye injuries can happen during everyday activities around the house and garden. In fact, around half of reported eye injuries occur in or around the home.

A few simple habits can help protect your eyes:

🛠️ DIY & power tools: Always wear appropriate safety glasses.
🌿 Gardening & mowing: Protect your eyes from flying debris and branches.
🧴 Cleaning products: Be careful of chemical splashes and follow product instructions.
🍳 Cooking: Take care around hot oil, steam and splattering food.
🧒 Kids at play: Choose age-appropriate toys and keep sharp objects safely out of reach.

👀 Remember: You only get one pair of eyes — protect them!

If an eye injury does occur, don't ignore it. Seek professional eye care, particularly if you experience pain, vision changes or a foreign body in the eye.

📚👀 DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH 👀📚

Did you know that vision plays an important role in how children learn and interact with the world around them?

Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference and is not caused by poor eyesight. However, some children experiencing reading difficulties may also have visual skills that need to be assessed.

Reading requires more than simply seeing letters clearly. A child's visual system needs to work efficiently to help them:

🔎 Focus and maintain clear vision
👀 Move their eyes accurately across a page
📖 Track words and lines without losing their place
🧠 Coordinate visual information with learning
⏱️ Sustain visual attention during close-up tasks

🚩 When might an eye examination be appropriate?

If your child is experiencing reading or learning difficulties, particularly if they:

• Avoid reading or become frustrated with books
• Lose their place or skip words when reading
• Experience headaches or tired eyes during schoolwork
• Have difficulty copying from the board
• Struggle with close-up concentration
• Report that words appear to move, blur or become uncomfortable

…it may be worthwhile having their vision and visual skills assessed.

👓 A comprehensive eye examination can look beyond simply checking whether a child can see clearly. An optometrist can assess aspects of vision such as focusing, eye coordination and eye movements that can contribute to comfortable and efficient reading.

💙 Every child deserves the opportunity to learn comfortably and confidently.
