Whitsunday Funerals & Crematorium is a family owned and run funeral home, committed to providing compassionate, respectful, and dignified care to families and their loved ones. With three branches located in Mackay, Proserpine, and Bowen, we offer complete funeral services including our own Chapels and Crematorium.

Our Bowen team are looking to fill the Position for a Permanent part time Funeral Directors Assistant, on the job training and development opportunities provided for the right candidate. The Funeral Directors Assistant play a key role in supporting our Funeral Directors to ensure services run smoothly and families are supported throughout the funeral process. This role involves both back of house and front of house duties including preparation, transportation, cleaning of vehicles and office spaces, after hours on call and assisting on funeral services. This role also requires you to be available to be on a rotating on call roster (currently week on week off), both after hours and weekends.

Key Requirements

A genuine, compassionate nature with a high level of empathy and attention to detail.

Able to perform administrational duties, Reception duties and good computer skills.

Ability to run PA, AV and Live Stream equipment, or be able to learn.

Current unrestricted drivers licence.

Availability to work on a rotating on call roster.

Physically fit and the ability to perform lifting and manual handling tasks.

Professional presentation (show this at the interview).

Strong communication skills and good writing skills.

Comfortable working in a sensitive and emotional environment.

Ability to follow direction and both work independently and as part of a team.

You are a reliable, team-oriented person who is motivated by Practical service and genuine care. While empathy is a must, efficiency, respect for procedures is what ensures each funeral service runs smoothly. You need to have a can-do attitude and willingness to go that extra mile every time.

Pooh said softly, “Eeyore, do you ever ask Heaven for a little sign from someone you miss?”

Eeyore looked toward the distant sky. “Every now and then, Pooh. Especially on the days when missing them feels heavier than usual.”

“What sort of sign do you ask for?”

“Nothing enormous,” Eeyore replied. “Just something small enough to make my heart believe they’re still near somehow.”

Pooh watched a butterfly drift past them. “Perhaps a butterfly?”

“Perhaps. Or a familiar song. A feather. A rainbow. A dream. Anything that arrives at just the right moment.”

Pooh placed a gentle paw around his friend. “And if no sign comes?”

Eeyore lowered his head. “Then I suppose I keep loving them anyway.”

Pooh nodded. “I think that’s the important part. Because love doesn’t disappear simply because someone has gone somewhere we cannot follow.”

“But I miss him terribly, Pooh.”

“I know,” Pooh whispered. “Some people leave such a large place in our hearts that their absence can never become small.”

Eeyore looked toward the clouds. “I only want to know that he’s all right.”

Pooh leaned closer. “Then perhaps today you can let every beautiful little thing remind you of the love you shared. Not because we know exactly what Heaven sends, but because love has a way of making ordinary moments feel like someone saying, ‘Remember me. I’m still part of you.’”

Eeyore was quiet for a while. “Then I’ll keep watching.”

“And I’ll sit here while you do,” Pooh said.

So they remained together beside the still water, watching butterflies cross the sky and carrying a hope too tender for certainty - that somewhere beyond goodbye, love was still holding the one their hearts could never stop missing.
