💕 Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Motivation
What’s really keeping you going?
When we start a new fitness journey, motivation often comes from extrinsic rewards — losing weight, fitting into a certain outfit, getting compliments, seeing a number on the scales or having a particular event to work towards.
And there’s nothing wrong with those things. They can be great short-term motivators.
But lasting change comes from something deeper. 💗
Intrinsic motivation is when you exercise because of how it makes you feel.
✨ You love feeling stronger.
✨ You have more energy.
✨ You enjoy moving your body.
✨ You feel proud of what you're capable of.
✨ Your confidence grows.
✨ You want to look after yourself because you know you're worth it.
The problem with relying only on extrinsic motivation is that when the reward disappears, so can the motivation.
The scales might stop moving.
The event comes and goes.
The compliments stop.
You reach your goal.
So what happens then?
Instead of making fitness something you have to do to achieve a particular outcome, let's build a relationship with exercise where you want to do it because of the person it helps you become. 💪🏼
Your goal doesn't have to be smaller clothes.
It can be a stronger body, a healthier mind, more confidence, more energy and feeling capable in your everyday life.
Don't just chase the outcome. Learn to love the process. ❤️
That's where sustainable change really begins ☺️
