🌿 Functional Exercise Matters 🌿
One of the most important movements we can practise as we age is simply getting up and down from the floor.
These photos show the stages of moving from all fours, into a lunge, and then standing up. It may look simple, but this movement requires a combination of strength, balance, flexibility, coordination and confidence.
Many people don't realise how quickly these abilities can decline if they are not regularly challenged. The inability to get up from the floor independently can have a significant impact on confidence, mobility and independence later in life.
This is why I include functional movements in my yoga and fitness classes. It's not about touching your toes or looking good in activewear. It's about maintaining the strength and mobility needed for everyday life.
Can you comfortably get down to the floor and back up again without using furniture or assistance?
If not, don't worry — it's a skill that can be improved with regular practice.
The best time to work on these abilities is before you need them.
Keep moving. Keep stretching. Keep strengthening. Your future self will thank you. 💚

This year marks 4 years since I completed my Yin Yoga Specialty training during an intensive live-in retreat at Mission Beach, QLD, adding to over 40 years of experience in the health and wellbeing industry. Yin Yoga is the perfect way to end your week—improving flexibility, releasing tension, calming the nervous system and helping you reconnect with yourself after a busy week.
Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga where poses are held comfortably for 3–5 minutes to gently stretch the connective tissues, improve flexibility, calm the nervous system, and promote deep relaxation.

Sandra Keating 🌿 Celebrating Sandra's Yoga Journey 🌿
Some people come along to a yoga class and stay for a few weeks or months. Others become part of the journey for years.
Sandra has been practising with me for over 8 years now. It all began with our live classes in Thorneside and, despite the changes life has brought over the years, she continues to show up regularly for our online classes.
Her commitment to her health and wellbeing is something to be admired. Like all of us, Sandra has experienced life's ups and downs, but she understands that movement, stretching, breathing and taking time for herself are important investments in both body and mind.
One of the things I love most about teaching is seeing the long-term benefits that come from simply showing up consistently. Strength improves, flexibility increases, balance gets better and, perhaps most importantly, we create habits that support us as we age.
Thank you, Sandra, for your loyalty, friendship and dedication over the years. It has been a privilege to be part of your wellness journey and I look forward to sharing many more classes with you. 💚🙏

As we age, cardio fitness becomes one of the most important predictors of long-term health and independence. A higher VO₂ max (your body's ability to use oxygen efficiently) is linked to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and many other chronic conditions.

The good news? You don't need to spend hours exercising. Interval training is one of the most effective ways to improve cardiovascular fitness, and my sessions are only 30 minutes or less and we do NO high impact moves.

Reality versus ChatGPT enhancement. Beware! There's nothing wrong with wanting to look your best, but problems arise when we start comparing ourselves to images that have been filtered, retouched, or AI-enhanced. It can leave people feeling like they're not enough when they're comparing themselves to a version of someone that doesn't truly exist.

Real beauty is found in authenticity, character, laughter lines, imperfections, and the stories that make us who we are. The older I get, the more I appreciate genuine smiles, real moments, and people who are comfortable being themselves.

Maybe the most refreshing thing we can do on social media is to show up as we are. 💛

Imagine going on an incredible overseas holiday and meeting four people from different corners of Australia, then connecting so effortlessly that it feels like you’ve known each other for years.
