This NAIDOC Week marks 50 years. Five decades of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities celebrating culture, telling truth, and refusing to be silenced.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, honours the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up.
At SEVA House, we’re celebrating by listening, learning, and honouring the oldest continuous living cultures on earth. NAIDOC has always belonged to community. Our role is to show up alongside it.

Happy NAIDOC Week

“Paralpi is about movement — movement through generations, through memory, through song and story. It speaks to the strength our people carry and the beauty of culture continuing to evolve while staying deeply connected to who we are.”

🌳Your body already knows how to heal.
Laughter, crying, hugging, singing, dancing can all be instrumental in your healing journey.

🌳At SEVA House, we believe therapy is one part of the picture. The rest lives in your everyday moments, your relationships, and the things that bring you back to yourself.

🌳SEVA House Maitland is currently accepting new adult clients on a Mental Health Care Plan. Most of our therapists are at capacity, but we have limited availability remaining.

🌳If you’ve been thinking about reaching out, now is a good time.

🏡✨ A room with more than four walls…

We have a space opening up at SEVA House and we’re hoping to find just the right person to fill it.

If you’re an NSW Victims Services–approved counsellor working as a sole trader, and you’ve been dreaming of a practice home that actually feels like one, this might be it.

Here’s what comes with renting your fixed fee room:
🍽️ A proper working kitchen
🏊 Pool access through summer
🌿 Gorgeous outdoor spaces
📶 Reliable internet
📋 Access to a steady stream of NSW VS referrals; our counsellors are at capacity and we don’t want those clients going without support

You run your own admin, see as many (or as few) clients as suits you meaning total autonomy and real community.

As for the community part:

We have 3 EMDR Consultants at SEVA as well as being all EMDR practitioners - meaning you have plenty of support if you’re a new or seasoned EMDR therapist.

We gather every 2 months for Modalities in Maitland) our local special interest group) and share a team lunch every couple of months. It’s the kind of place where you bump into a colleague and end up in a good clinical conversation over coffee. ☕

SEVA House is a short walk from Maitland train station and we see children, teens, adults and families.

If this sounds like your people, reach out. We’d love to chat. 💛

🎉 Congratulations, Ben Crebert! 🎉

We are so proud to share that our wonderful SEVA team member, Ben Crebert, has just achieved accreditation as an EMDRAA Accredited Consultant. This is a professional milestone that reflects years of deep, dedicated clinical work and a commitment to this modality.

Ben is a Clinical Psychologist based at with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma, complex presentations. His approach weaves together EMDR, Parts Work, Somatic Therapy, and Process-Oriented Psychology, always with warmth, depth, and a genuine belief in the capacity of every person to heal.

Those of us who’ve had the privilege of working alongside Ben know how much this accreditation means; not just as a credential, but as recognition of the clinician and human being he is.

Ben is now available to offer EMDR consultation to practitioners seeking support with their EMDR cases: whether you’re early in your EMDR journey or working through complex and dissociative presentations. His supervision approach is collaborative, experiential, and grounded in the relational.

If you’re looking for an EMDRAA Accredited Consultant, reach out to Ben:

MODALITIES IN MAITLAND
Is proud to host guest speaker Cathy Broderick

💫 Conscious connected breathwork 💫

“I’ve recently completed a three-month training in Conscious Connected Breathwork and am now gently beginning to weave it into my therapeutic work. I see breathwork as something that can sit alongside counselling in a warm, supportive, and body-aware way. Sometimes people can make sense of their experiences in their mind, yet still carry tension, overwhelm, or disconnection in their body. Breathwork can offer a gentle way of slowing down, turning inward, and reconnecting with what may be held beneath the surface, all within a space that centres safety, choice, and care.”

Cathy will attend to share ways to integrate Conscious Connected Breathwork into Therapy

Held: in person and online June 17 6pm - 8pm @ SEVA House - 17 Steam Street Maitland NSW AU.

Today 26 May, is National Sorry Day.

A day to acknowledge the pain of Stolen Generations and reflect on how we all play a part in the healing process.

For many First Nations People, this is not simply history, but pain that continues to this day. The impact of forced removals continues to shape lives, families and communities. Saying sorry is a beginning, but it does not signal the end.

As it has been 30 years since The Bringing Them Home Report was tabled, the focus must now be from sorry to action.

🪃 Learn - seek out resources to educate and learn more.
🪃Give - donate to organisations supporting survivors in frontline services or blak owned and operated organisations, businesses and the arts
🪃Listen - seek out and honour the lived experience of First Nations People
