This week in our GymbaROO classes we’re exploring hearing and speech. 💜

Long before children become confident talkers, they’re learning to listen. Listening isn’t just about hearing sounds—it involves the brain recognising, processing and making sense of what is heard.

Throughout every GymbaROO class, we support this development through songs, rhymes, music, movement, listening games and following verbal instructions. We also include carefully planned vestibular activities such as swinging, rolling, spinning and balancing. The vestibular system has strong connections with the parts of the brain involved in attention, auditory processing and language, helping children become better able to listen, process what they hear and respond.

These playful experiences build the foundations for communication, speech, learning and, later on, reading and writing.

New to GymbaROO KindyROO? 💜

Wondering what happens in a typical class? Here’s a quick guide to our Level 2–8 class format!

Most of our classes begin with time exploring our large equipment, followed by teacher-led mat time packed with music, movement and activities to support your child’s brain and body development. We then head back to the gym to build on those new skills before finishing with everyone’s favourite—music and parachute time!

A couple of things to note:
• Some Wombat (crawling baby) classes in our smaller BabyROO Purple Room at Maitland follow a slightly different format. Due to overlapping classes in the Blue Room, these classes enjoy one longer large equipment play session instead of two shorter sessions.
• Platypus (Level 1) classes are a 30-minute program for non-mobile babies, so they don’t include large equipment gym time. Instead, every minute is carefully designed around tummy time, sensory experiences, movement, music and parent education to support your baby’s earliest stages of development.

No matter which class you’re in, every session is age-appropriate, research-informed and designed to help your child build the foundations for lifelong learning through movement.

Ready to join us? We’d love to welcome your family! 💜

Has your child been hanging back in class lately? 💜

It can be easy to worry that they’re “not joining in,” but remember that children learn in different ways. Some are eager to jump straight into every activity, while others prefer to watch first, quietly taking everything in before they’re ready to participate.

As GymbaROO teachers, we see this all the time. A child may spend most of the class observing from the sidelines, yet surprise their parents later by confidently demonstrating their tic tocs, singing the songs or recreating the movements at home. They were learning all along.

Observation is an important part of the learning process. Watching helps children build confidence, understand expectations and process new experiences at their own pace. When they feel ready, they’ll often join in naturally.

Every child develops differently, and there’s no “right” way to participate. Whether your little one is an enthusiastic explorer or a careful observer, they’re learning, growing and making connections every time they come to class.

We celebrate every child, exactly where they are on their developmental journey. 💜

This Week’s Neurodevelopmental Theme: Rhythm & Music 💜

Did you know that music is about so much more than singing songs? At GymbaROO, rhythm and music are carefully woven into every BabyROO and GymbaROO class because they play an important role in early brain development.

Through songs, rhymes, movement and instruments, children are strengthening:
🎵 Listening and auditory processing skills
🎵 Language and early literacy development
🎵 Memory and sequencing
🎵 Motor planning and coordination
🎵 Balance, timing and rhythm
🎵 Attention, concentration and self-regulation
🎵 Social connection and confidence

Research in neuroscience shows that when children move to music, multiple areas of the brain are activated simultaneously. Combining rhythm with movement helps build and strengthen the neural pathways that support learning, communication, coordination and emotional regulation—making music a powerful tool for healthy development.

That’s why you’ll find carefully chosen songs, rhymes and musical activities woven throughout every BabyROO and GymbaROO class. They’re not just fun—they’re supporting your child’s developing brain every step of the way.

For a deeper dive into this week’s neurodevelopmental theme, don’t forget to visit your Parent Portal. Your term fees include access to a wealth of information about the science behind our program and how you can continue supporting your child’s development at home. 💜

Our 1–2 year old Penguin class at Branxton has been loving exploring our spinning suction toys on the windows, with the beautiful winter sunshine streaming through the room. 💜

While it looks like simple play, reaching up to spin fidget spinners is packed with developmental benefits for toddlers who are learning to walk.

By reaching overhead, children are strengthening their shoulders, upper back and core muscles, improving balance and postural control as they stand on their feet. These movements also encourage weight shifting, coordination and body awareness—all important foundations for confident walking, climbing and later fine motor skills.

As little hands grasp, twist and spin the toys, they’re also developing:
✨ Fine motor strength and finger dexterity
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
✨ Problem-solving as they experiment with cause and effect
✨ Social skills through turn-taking, sharing and watching their friends learn alongside them.

Sometimes the simplest activities create the richest learning opportunities. At GymbaROO, every experience is carefully chosen to support your child’s brain and body development through play.

Come and see the difference movement-based learning can make in our Penguin classes for 1–2 year olds at Branxton! 💜

Why does tummy time matter? 💜

This week in our BabyROO classes we’re exploring one of the most important foundations for your baby’s development—tummy time!

One of the most common questions we hear is, “When will my baby sit?” While sitting is often seen as a milestone, independent sitting actually develops naturally when babies have first built the strength and coordination through tummy time, rolling, creeping and crawling. These earlier movements strengthen the neck, shoulders, back and core, allowing babies to confidently move into and out of sitting on their own.

At GymbaROO, we don’t teach babies to sit—we focus on the movement experiences that help sitting emerge naturally while also preparing babies for crawling and later learning.

This week’s slides also share some helpful tummy time tips:
✨ Start with short, frequent sessions.
✨ Tummy time supports balance, posture and brain development.
✨ Consistent tummy time is linked with earlier gross motor milestones.
✨ Positioning your baby’s elbows under their shoulders can make tummy time easier.
✨ For young babies, slowly moving one toy helps develop visual tracking.

Remember, tummy time doesn’t only happen on the floor—time on your chest, across your lap or in a tummy-down carry all count too!

More information on this week’s neurodevelopmental theme can be found in your Parent Portal, included in your term fees. 💜
