🚨 Did you know this important button battery guideline was updated here in Australia recently? 👏

If you think your child has swallowed a button battery, even if you’re not sure, ALWAYS treat it as an emergency.

📞 Call 000 or drive to an emergency department immediately whilst following the steps I explain in the video. 🚑

When a button battery is swallowed, contact with saliva creates an electrical circuit that triggers a chemical reaction where the battery is stuck. In as little as two hours, this can cause serious damage to the oesophagus and airway, and can be life-threatening. ⚠️

As a paediatric emergency nurse, we don’t mind you coming in for peace of mind for an x-ray. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. 👩‍⚕️

👉 Watch this Reel for exactly what to do. Save it. Share it. You never know when you might need it.

〰️ We have been folllwing this guidance in clinical practice and teaching this in our first aid courses since the roll out in June 2026.

Any Qs? LMK.

It’s surprising to learn, statically choking is not as common as you may think. The terms gagging and choking are commonly, incorrectly used interchangeably when in fact they are VERY different and therefore the management is very different. I think this plays into the worry that parents have with choking, there are a considerable amount of misconceptions.
Choking is the #1 reason why parents book into our first aid courses. We go into this in great detail. We also have a $20 online masterclass that’s a great refresher.

In Australia, a body temperature over 38*C is considered a fever (for all ages)

Here are a couple of important points about fevers:

➕ A fever is a normal response to many illnesses.

➕ If your baby is under three months and has a fever above 38°C, then you should see a doctor straight away, even if they have no other symptoms.

A Mingle Seasoning Mum’s Night Off hosted by The Motherhood & Career Podcast _ was VERY welcomed. 🥂✨

We have used a variety of Mingle products at home, for the last few years, so it was inspiring to hear from the founder, Jordyn, about her better-for-you approach to pantry staples, without compromising on flavour. I encourage you to check the ingredients of a few pantry staples, including sauces and dressings. 👀

And the tomato sauce? A BIG hit with our heavy-handed toddler over the last few months . 🍅😂

Delish food, great company and a very welcomed night off. Thanks SUNDAY AGENCY | PR & COMMS

A common question in our first aid courses is- how to know whether paracetamol or ibuprofen is the better choice. It can definitely be tricky to know which one to use when your little one is sick or in pain 🤕😩😢

Here’s some quick reference info on the two that you might find helpful. It is important to remember that they don’t treat the cause of the pain, they do help relieve the symptoms of injuries or conditions including things like ear infections, sore throat, a sore tummy or a broken bone.

Keep track of your dosages - if you need to give your child paracetamol or ibuprofen for more than 48 hours to relieve symptoms, see your doctor 🩺

We have a great blog on our website that goes into more detail about what to use, when, how often, how much and some of those confusing labels and dosage recommendations.
