Love how our memory works. A client this week while teaching a self hypnosis technique said "Phil Collins" and laughed out loud.
I had no idea how this related to what we were doing, but made sure we discussed it afterwards.
The technique is used in a number of ways, but in this case was to enable a simple guided process that can be recalled later and challenges/blockages/or just good feelings explored in regular use.
The process is named many things such as doors of forgiveness, but in this case it really was just a simple visualisation to set up a routine practice of mind exploration and also prompting routine task management.
Client imagines themselves in a corridor of doors, there may be a door at the end with light glowing around it. Explanations can be given for the door on the end and doors along the way, and there may be different doors or similar doors. Allowing the mind to explore as appropriate.
The prompting of a corridor of doors reminded the client of the Phil Collin's "In the air tonight" video clip. Love that.
Smells, tastes, sounds, thoughts, images, feelings are all potential memory triggers. Good and Bad.
I too have a memory trigger for a different Phil Collins song. It reminds me of a book I read when young, and it was playing on the TV/radio regularly at the time. I need to track down that song now.
