Enhancing Learning The Enhancing Learning team is dedicated to creating connections, conversations and creativity. We hope to see you at play soon. Anthea, Kendra & Sharna

This is a therapy and learning space where children have agency and can engage in the play they learn best from. We are three sisters (two teachers and one speechie) promoting and demonstrating that pretend play is a perfect learning opportunity for children in early childhood where the focus should be on creativity, innovation, social interaction and most of all talking! We want to inspire parent's and teacher's imagination and skills at engaging children not just in simple pretend play routines but in complex, dynamic and extended play transactions.

The Invite or Suggest Strategy 🙌

Just a simple change in language and the way we approach a situation can make a big impact on how our children respond.

Kids can sense our frustration, if were stressed and on edge through our language and tone, which can instantly put them in fight, flight or freeze... and let's just say this is never pleasant for anyone 😅

Challenge time!

During the morning routine before school, try changing simple things you would say every morning like "Put your shoes on!" to "I think you're missing something on your feet" and see if this makes the school morning a bit calmer 😆

It's the little things 😊

Often, as humans, we are assessed on how we perform, but what about all the things leading up to that point?

In order for children to 'perform' well in both the classroom and other areas, we have to consider the other elements.

Do I feel SAFE?
Can I FOCUS?
Can I hear and see to actually ABSORB the information?
Does this CONNECT (make sense)?
Can I PERFORM this?

Meet Mel!

Mel is our Family and Wellbeing Coordinator and Senior Allied Health Assistant, AND she is also about to graduate from university with a degree in Counselling! 👏

Mel loves to support children through their development, finding out why they do what they do, and supporting them and their families through their emotions.

In Mel's spare time (the minimal amount she has😅), she loves to spend time outside, by the water, caravaning and camping every few weekends. 😊

What if learning isn’t just about how much we can teach, but also recognising when a child is ready to learn, practice, or take a break?

The Work Play Rest Cycle is one of the concepts explored in Growing Great Human Beings, encouraging us to look at learning through a different lens and become curious about what each child is telling us.

Sometimes, knowing when to pause can be just as important as knowing when to keep going. 💛

Meet Kara!

With 35 years of experience as a Speech Pathologist across the USA, New Zealand and Australia, Kara brings a wealth of experience working with children with a range of communication needs.

What she loves most is seeing children explore, discover and find their own ways to communicate. She’s especially passionate about helping families notice and celebrate their child’s strengths and those little moments of brilliance. 🤩

Outside of work, you’ll usually find her creating something, from knitting and painting to cooking, preserving and making her own soap and balms! She also loves camping with her family and dreams of retiring in a little self-sustaining cottage in Victoria one day. 🌿🎨

The Body Bottle activity 🙌🏼

This one is by far one of our most popular activities… for both the kids and us 🤭

It’s an amazing way to communicate how our bodies react to internal and external factors, what helps us to regulate and what causes our Body Bottles to boil-over. 🤯

This helps give adults and children a common language to express how they are feeling and assists adults to understand the actions a child may be taking. ☺️💙

Terri is our amazing Learning Services Coordinator and Allied Health Assistant. You'll often see Terri with a cup of tea in hand and a massive smile on her face!
Terri loves playing to get to know her clients and find the best ways to support them in meaningful, effective ways. Her favourite activity is marble run; she is our marble run queen! 👸
Terri also enjoys working with families to help provide individualised support that creates a real impact in their homes, community and environment.
In her spare time, you'll often find Terri at community events, markets or musical productions. 🎶🎟
