HOT DOC scam alert
Please note that there hasn't been a data breach from HotDoc.
We’ve been made aware of a phishing SMS impersonating HotDoc, containing a link like “refund-hotdoc.com” or "Medicare Refund Update". This message is not from HotDoc, and patients should avoid clicking on it.
Many people are currently impersonating others through SMS, phone calls, and emails in attempts to phish unsuspecting individuals. Malicious actors can obtain phone numbers or email addresses from various sources and often pose as representatives from large companies or medical clinics. Please note that there hasn't been a data breach from HotDoc.
How to Support Your Patients:
Do not click on the link or reply to the message.
Check for signs of authenticity - HotDoc will always include at least three identifying details when contacting patients, such as:
Their name
Your clinic’s name or doctor’s name
Appointment or booking information
Legitimate HotDoc SMS will come from 0409 593 783 or your Practice Shortcode.
HotDoc links only point to:
hotdoc.com, hotdoc.com.au, or hotdoc.io (check spelling carefully).
HotDoc emails come from .com.au [email protected] / .com.au / .io
HotDoc will not call patients - only if a patient has contacted us for support.
They can enable extra protection via Multifactor Authentication (MFA) here.
We are also encouraging patients to help us with reporting this issue. Anyone who received this type of message can report the phishing SMS to 0429 999 888 (free service by the ACMA - Australian Communications and Media Authority). This service helps identify and block malicious numbers and domains.
