This Contact Lens Health Week, we're highlighting a few simple ways to support healthy contact lens wear.
A common question we hear is whether it's okay to wear contact lenses while swimming or showering.
For healthy contact lens wear, it's best to avoid exposing your contact lenses to water whenever possible, including while swimming, participating in water sports or showering.
Water in oceans, pools and spas may contain microorganisms that can increase the risk of eye infection.
Exposure to water may also cause contact lenses to adhere more tightly to the surface of the eye, making them uncomfortable and more difficult to remove.
If you regularly swim or participate in water sports, speak with your optometrist about the most suitable contact lens options for your lifestyle.
