🍂 Autumn is here — and so is garden clean-up season.

As you rake, trim, and tackle those overgrown hedges, don’t forget your eyes. Flying twigs, dust, and rogue branches are more common than you think — and they can cause serious damage.

Wear protective eyewear while you work outdoors, and if you need a check-up after a knock or irritation, we're here to help.

May is Macula Month, so we thought we'd take the time to shine a light on macular disease.

The most common macular diseases are age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema. Macular disease is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia, affecting an estimated 1.9 million Australians.

You can have early signs of macular disease without knowing it. However, when symptoms do appear, they can include:
- Difficulty reading
- Vision distortion
- Dark patches in the central vision

If you notice any of these symptoms, you should come to Dwyer & Ross Optometrists for an eye exam. Early detection and prompt intervention are crucial to saving sight. Together, we can raise awareness and make a difference!

As we move into the colder months, it’s tempting to turn up the heat indoors — but warm air can dry out your eyes.

Try using a blanket to stay cozy, keep a safe distance from heaters, and use lubricating eye drops if you’re experiencing eye dryness. Your eyes will thank you!

Talk to one of our optometrists about the options for relief from dry winter eyes.
