We hosted the first Community Ally Network co-design workshop in Logan on Saturday.

It was a beautiful day of collaboration with community members connected to Fijian, Samoan, Māori, Syrian, Egyptian and Afghan communities – all coming together to share ideas, experiences and hopes for safer communities.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to such thoughtful and generous conversations.

The Community Ally Network works with people from many cultural communities in Logan, Caboolture and Ipswich. The project aims to make it easier for people going through domestic and family violence to get support by training community members to become community allies.

The project is a partnership between Women’s Health & Equality Queensland, Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma and Pasifika Women's Alliance

The co-design workshops focused on community members sharing their first ideas about what this training could look like.

Caboolture is on this weekend, and we’re looking forward to continuing these important discussions about what safer communities can look and feel like.

It was a pleasure to welcome Kara Cook MP to our office today. We really appreciated the opportunity to share insights from our work and discuss key issues affecting women and girls.

Kara bought her own valuable perspective to the conversation about supporting our communities and improving outcomes for women across Queensland.

In Australia alcohol has become a common part of our social life. It is important to remember that it can negatively impact mental health and be an unhealthy coping mechanism. In fact, research shows that people who use alcohol to ‘self-medicate’ are more likely to develop both dependence on alcohol, and alcohol use disorders.

It is useful to ask questions to understand why you’re drinking:
Why do I drink?
How do I feel before and after drinking?

There is support available if you or someone you know is struggling with their drinking.

On Monday 27th July, a national emergency alert test will be sent to mobile phones across Australia.
If you have a safe phone or a hidden phone, please be aware that the alert may make a sound or vibration. A text will also be sent to your phone.

In Queensland this alert will be at 2pm.

If you do not want to receive the alert, or it is not safe for you to do so, you can turn your phone off or switch to airplane mode before 2pm. Keep your phone off or in airplane mode for at least one hour after the alert time.

If you choose to turn your phone off before the test, only do so if it is safe and appropriate for your situation.

Please share this information mindfully with anyone who may need it.

50 years deadly, marking five decades of NAIDOC Week, a week dedicated to celebrating and recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It is a time for all Australians to listen, learn and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

This year’s poster ‘Paralpi’ was created by Zaachariaha Fielding.

Zaachariaha Fielding is a proud Yankunytjatjara man from the APY Lands in South Australia and is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading contemporary First Nations artists and musicians Zaacharia artwork, “depicts the sounds of Paralpi, a significant place just outside Mimili on the eastern APY Lands in South Australia.”
