Dr Bothma soon discovered that while many doctors treated skin cancers on the Sunshine Coast, few clinics offered effective non-surgical treatments for many skin cancers that could be treated without leaving scars; there was no focus on therapies that could reduce the risk of d

eveloping further skin cancers; and due to the shortage of specialist dermatologists on the Sunshine Coast, many patients had to wait many months or had to travel to Brisbane to seek attention for many skin disorders that could be treated by an expert in primary care dermatology.

A benign (normal) mole is typically:
✔️ Symmetrical
✔️ Has smooth, even borders
✔️ Is one consistent colour
✔️ Is smaller than 6 mm
✔️ Stays the same over time

A suspicious mole may:
⚠️ Be asymmetrical
⚠️ Have uneven or irregular borders
⚠️ Contain multiple colours
⚠️ Be larger than 6 mm
⚠️ Change in size, shape, colour, or begin to itch or bleed

Remember the ABCDEs of melanoma:
- Asymmetry
- Border irregularity
- Colour variation
- Diameter greater than 6 mm
- Evolving or changing
