Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Cura Day Hospitals Group Optometrist Education Conference in Noosa.

It was a fantastic day of learning, collaboration and connection, bringing together around 60 Optometrists from across South East Queensland, along with Ophthalmologists and industry partners.

We extend our sincere thanks to our speakers for sharing their expertise and clinical insights, and to our valued sponsors and exhibitors, Alcon, Bayer, Glaukos Corporation, OptiMed, Rayner, Seonix Bio, ZEISS Group and SeeWay for their generous support. This week is NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Cura Day Hospitals Group, we acknowledge this year’s theme and its focus on strength, connection and cultural continuity, aligned with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Patient Care Guidelines and our commitment to culturally safe, respectful and person-centred care.

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has elevated the voices of communities, honouring Elders, celebrating culture and recognising the resilience and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It reminds us of the importance of listening, learning and embedding culturally capable practices that recognise the holistic nature of health, including connection to Country, family and community.

NAIDOC is more than a week. It reinforces our shared responsibility to deliver care that is respectful, culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. After 28 years of dedicated service, last week marked the final operating list for Dr Peter Jefferies.

Known affectionately as "PJ" to staff and colleagues, Dr Jefferies has been a highly respected Ophthalmologist whose care, expertise and compassion have made a lasting impact on countless patients and the wider healthcare community.

PJ will be greatly missed by our team and by the many patients whose lives he has helped improve throughout his distinguished career.

We thank Dr Jefferies for his incredible contribution over the past 28 years and wish him all the very best for a well-earned retirement.
