๐Ÿ’™ Meet The Mum Who Understands Autism From Both Sides

One of the things we look for when building our team is people who genuinely care about children and families.

That's why we're excited to introduce Rhiannon ๐Ÿ˜Š

Rhiannon brings both professional experience supporting children and personal experience as the mum of an autistic daughter.

She understands firsthand that every child is different and that families need support workers who listen, care and never judge.

When she's not supporting children, you'll usually find her:

๐ŸŒฟ Paddle boarding
๐Ÿ•๏ธ Camping with her girls
๐ŸŽจ Doing arts and crafts
๐Ÿ“ธ Chasing a beautiful sunrise or sunset with her camera
๐Ÿช Baking something delicious in the kitchen

Rhiannon loves helping children feel safe, included and confident, and she believes some of the best connections happen through simple activities, creativity and time outdoors.

One of her favourite quotes is:

"Life is tough darling, but so are you."

If you're looking for a support worker who is kind, patient, down-to-earth and genuinely passionate about helping children thrive, we'd love to introduce you to Rhiannon ๐Ÿ’™

It's easy to think that one person can't make much difference, but if every family picked up just a few pieces of rubbish each visit, imagine the impact it could have.

Support work isn't always about the activity itself.

Sometimes it's about using real-life moments to teach responsibility, kindness and caring for the world around us.

And hopefully helping protect a few turtles along the way ๐Ÿข๐ŸŒŠ

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ PODCAST SNIPPET

One of the most powerful moments from my conversation with Erica was when she shared this advice for parents:

"Trust your instincts as a mum."

Like many families, Erica spent years seeking answers.

She was told by specialists that nothing was wrong.

But something didn't feel right.

She kept asking questions.
She kept advocating.
She kept listening to her instincts.

And eventually, she got the answers her child needed.

As parents, you know your child better than anyone.

If something doesn't feel right...
Ask questions.

Seek support.

Get a second opinion if needed.

Trusting your gut doesn't mean you'll always be right.

But ignoring it can sometimes mean missing something important.

โ˜€๏ธ Sunshine, Sand & Old School Games

After plenty of wet weather, the sun finally came out and we took the opportunity to head to the beach.

One of my favourite parts of support work is introducing kids to some of the simple games many of us grew up playing.

On this adventure we brought back a few classics:

๐Ÿฅ Frisbee
๐Ÿƒ Bull in the Ring
โญ• Noughts and Crosses
๐Ÿชจ Rock throwing competitions

No fancy equipment.
No screens.
Just movement, laughter and plenty of fun.

Sometimes the best sessions aren't complicated. They're about getting outdoors, being active and creating opportunities for connection, confidence and play.

It's amazing how much engagement, communication and problem-solving can happen through simple games on a beach.

I think we all had as much fun as the kids did!

๐ŸŒฟ World Environment Day ๐ŸŒฟ

Today is a great reminder of something we see every week working with autistic and neurodivergent children.

Nature offers something that many children are craving more of.

Less noise. Less pressure. Less screens.
More movement. More adventure. More opportunities to explore at their own pace.

Whether it's climbing rocks, walking a trail, fishing, spotting wildlife, splashing through a creek or simply sitting under a tree, nature creates opportunities for children to build confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills and independence.

Many autistic children connect incredibly well with the natural world. It can provide sensory experiences, challenges and moments of calm that are difficult to find elsewhere.

On World Environment Day, we encourage families to get outside, even if it's just for a short walk, a visit to a local park or some time exploring the backyard.
Sometimes the simplest adventures can have the biggest impact. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ’™ Winter is here... and if your household is anything like ours, you'll be looking for simple ways to support your family's immune system.

One product we're fully stocked up on right now is Bio-Kult 60s.

Why do we like it?

โœ… Supports gut health and digestive function
โœ… A healthy gut plays an important role in overall immune health
โœ… Small capsules that are easy to swallow
โœ… No refrigeration required
โœ… Convenient for home, work, school or travel
โœ… Suitable for the whole family

Many autistic children can be selective with foods, so having practical ways to support gut health can be helpful alongside a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

We always encourage families to seek personalised health advice where needed, but Bio-Kult is one of those supplements we like to keep on hand, especially during the cooler months.

We're fully stocked and ready for winter! โ„๏ธ

Since getting back from our trip to Cairns, Iโ€™ve been reminded just how important nature time really is ๐ŸŒฟ

Not just for us as adults, but for kids too.

Recently I took a young client to Buderim Forest and it was such a good reminder of what the outdoors can do.

When we first started rock hopping across the creek, he was unsure of his footing, shaky on the rocks and needing to hold my hand for support.

But by the end of the session, everything had changed.

His movement was more confident.
He was calmer.
More regulated.
And absolutely worn out in the best possible way.

Sometimes confidence doesnโ€™t come from sitting at a table or being told what to do.

Sometimes it comes from climbing rocks, balancing on logs, getting muddy and figuring things out in the real world.

Honestlyโ€ฆ I need to get more kids into the forest ๐Ÿ’™

Iโ€™m taking on the Reel Talk challenge NEXT WEEK !! ๐ŸŽฃ๐Ÿ’™

This oneโ€™s close to home for me. Itโ€™s about menโ€™s mental health and having more real conversations.

Too many men are doing it tough behind the scenes. Too many feel like theyโ€™ve got to handle it on their own.

That needs to change.

My goal is to raise $500 to support the work being done in this space. I'm not there yet so I need your help guys.

If youโ€™d like to support, the donation link is in our bio / https://reeltalk.org.au/clint-bauer

Appreciate it so much ๐Ÿ™

If your looking for something to do with the kids on the Sunshine Coast, I found a pretty cool spot the other day ๐Ÿ˜Š

I took a client there whoโ€™s really interested in gems and crystals, and we honestly had a great time.

The place is called Opals Down Under near Aussie World ๐Ÿ’Ž

For around $12, kids get a container and little digger, then can search through and collect crystals to take home.

One thing I really liked was thereโ€™s no time limit. Kids can slow down, explore, dig, sort and just enjoy the experience without being rushed.

It ended up being a really calm, engaging activity and sparked heaps of conversation and excitement.

Definitely worth checking out if your child enjoys sensory play, treasure hunting, collecting or hands on activities.

Getting to know our team a little better ๐Ÿ’›

One thing weโ€™ve learnt over the years is that shared interests can be such a powerful way to build connection with autistic kids.

Sometimes it starts with something simple:
๐Ÿฆœ A favourite animal
๐ŸŒ… A love for sunsets
๐Ÿ„โ€โ™€๏ธ Surfing
๐ŸŽจ Nature
๐ŸŽฎ Gaming
๐ŸŽฃ Fishing
๐Ÿด Animals

Those shared interests can become the bridge that helps trust, comfort and genuine connection grow.

Hereโ€™s a little glimpse into some of Feliโ€™s favourite things ๐Ÿ˜Š

Her favourite animal is the kookaburra because of its determination, bravery and sense of humour, and her favourite time of day is sunset because itโ€™s when she feels most alive, especially when surfing or out in nature.

When we help match families with support workers, we look beyond schedules and availability. We also think about personalities, interests and the little things that can help a child feel safe and understood ๐Ÿ’™

If youโ€™re looking for support for your child on the Sunshine Coast, weโ€™d love to chat.
