Did you know that breathing is the only system in the body that is automatically regulated by our brain, yet we can also consciously control?
Given that breathing ‘just happens’, we can tend to take it somewhat for granted.
We experience our day-to-day life and our breath adapts accordingly to match our body’s oxygen requirements…
Consider the times that you exert yourself physically, or when you are going to sleep, how about when you have 100 things on your TO DO list and only one hour to make it all happen?
In these moments (and all the others like them) our breathing adapts to the change of conditions in our body AND is also influenced by our emotion in that instance.
Take a moment.
Notice if/ where you feel tension in your body right now.
Take note of your breath.
Are you breathing through your nose?
On the breath in, does your lower abdomen flare front to back and side to side? Or are you just breathing into your chest?
Spend the next few minutes being conscious of your breath, and the changes that happen as a result.
