We were delighted to welcome Abbey Faulkner to Plumtree yesterday for our Ask Us Anything: Inclusion for Library Staff session.

Abbey is a disability advocate and trainee journalist from ABC’s The Assembly (and Plumtree Preschool Alumni : ) She joined library staff from across Australia to share her experiences, answer questions, and explore what meaningful inclusion can look like in library programs and community spaces.

People with lived experience of disability play an important role in our professional learning programs. Hearing directly from advocates like Abbey helps build understanding, confidence, and practical ideas for creating welcoming environments where all children and families can participate and belong.

Thank you, Abbey, for sharing your time, insights and lived experience with us, and thank you to everyone who joined the conversation.

Over the past two years, Plumtree has worked alongside .net.au , community organisations, bicultural leaders and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds to explore a simple but powerful idea: when families are involved in decisions from the beginning, the results are more relevant, accessible and useful.

Our latest blog shares how parents' experiences and insights helped influence resources that better reflect the realities of family life, and why genuine partnerships with communities lead to better outcomes for everyone.
