Service can be provided to NDIS participants (self / plan managed), DVA, Medicare or privately funded clients.

As my regular clients are now all aware, I have made the very tough decision to suspend delivery of speech therapy services as of 30.6.26, indefinitely. I am doing this for health and family reasons.

As such, I will not be accepting new referrals at this stage.

Thanks for following my journey in private practice, it has been a privilege working within our wonderful Fraser Coast community.

One of the weird perks of being a Speechie, is that I have created multiple copies of my voice! I have voice banked with two different companies, before supporting clients to do the same. And now the most recent technology is voice cloning, which I have completed today.

If I ever lose my speech, I’m safe in the knowledge that I will still be able to communicate with my own voice, through an app. 

(And if I lose my voice temporarily due to a bout of laryngitis, I can still access my stern Mum voice to keep the kids in check, LOL).

I’m watching with amazement the photos and videos coming out of Hervey Bay this morning with the flash flooding. As of 2pm in Maryborough, we’ve had a small shower only, still registering as 0mm in the gauge!

I hope you have all had a good start to 2025.

I have had a few queries lately as to whether I am able to reopen my books. I have looked over my schedule for the next term, and sadly come to the conclusion that I cannot open my books at this time.

I’ve had over 300 clients referred to me since starting my business. Obviously not all of these clients are current, however many need regular reviews and do come back to me for blocks of therapy. I need to be able to provide a good service to these existing clients, without spreading myself too thin.

When looking at my schedule, I can see that I have no availability for clients requiring regular/ongoing therapy appointments. If you are/have a client who requires a one off swallowing assessment and mealtime management plan, I may be able to assist with this, but the current wait time would be 1 to 2 months.

If you are in need of a list of local SP providers, let me know and I can email you out a list. You can also use the speech pathology Australia website function “find a speech pathologist” to search for a provider.

After 4 years of being mobile, I have finally rented myself a clinic room! It will be so nice to do less driving, and not take my admin home with me. There are some lovely people working around me too, I’ve missed that. I’ve moved in just in time to enjoy my favourite tree (Jacaranda) blossoming outside my window.

I will still do home visits to those who can’t make it in to the room. I look forward to welcoming some of you soon!

Thank you for your support of Fraser Coast speech therapy services over the past four years, I very much appreciate it.

I have made the tough decision to close my books until at least the end of 2024. This will not affect any existing clients, those with booked appointments, or those already accepted onto my waiting list.

I have a huge caseload of regular and review clients. In order to continue offering a good quality service, and not spread myself too thin, I need to stop accepting new referrals for the time being.

I will review the situation early in 2025. Thanks for your understanding.

Something different today. My client and I iced some biscuits in support of the Qld / Maroons Origin team. We focussed on attention, communicating choices, following instructions, writing, fine motor and visouspatial skills.

Then we ate the biscuits to complete a dysphagia / swallow assessment.

As you can see, we will not be winning any Women’s Weekly awards soon, but it was a successful session nonetheless.

This weekend I did some important research!

Many of my clients have dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and need to eat soft foods. Last week I was asked what lollies are suitable for people who need a soft and bite sized diet.

I put a post on a Speechie FB page asking for suggestions, when on a shopping spree, then tested all the products I bought to see if they met the IDDSI criteria.

You’ll see from the results that many were NOT safe 🙁 So I will keep looking for alternatives. (Please don’t try any of the pictured lollies if you have dydphagia, without checking with your Speechie first).

Eating all those lollies was a tough gig 🤣 But I hope this little experiment shows I try to go “above and beyond” for my clients.
