I started my own business as a health care professional in 2004 and have been working with pregnant women since 2006. There’s a reason I don’t make “3 tips for the best birth experience” type content.

I can’t empower you.

Now before you scroll on, hear me out...

Empowerment isn’t something someone else gives you. It’s something you create for yourself.

Birth preparation isn’t about achieving the “perfect” birth. It’s about helping you feel safe, calm, informed and confident as you navigate your own journey.

What are your thoughts on empowerment in birth?

I have space for just two more couples in my July Back to Basics Birthing classes. These classes aren't about preparing you for one type of birth. They're about preparing you for any birth. Whether your journey includes a straightforward vaginal birth, an induction, a VBAC, or if things lead to a caesarean birth, my goal is to help you understand your options, feel confident asking questions, and know how to navigate whatever path unfolds. Partners play a huge role too. Rather than feeling like a passive bystander, you'll learn practical comfort measures, positioning techniques, breathing strategies, and hands-on skills that can make a real difference during labour. My classes are practical, interactive, and engaging. We use props and models to help you understand what's happening inside the body, explore the biomechanics of birth and the pelvis, and learn why positioning and movement matter. We also practise techniques together, so you leave knowing not just what to do, but when and how to do it. I share real-life scenarios from past clients, photos, videos, and honest discussions about birth, giving you a balanced understanding of both the possibilities and the "what ifs". As an added bonus, you'll also receive access to my comprehensive online course at no extra cost, so you can revisit everything we've covered and explore additional topics we don't have time to dive into during class. If you're looking for birth education that is informative, practical, supportive, and even a little fun, I'd love to welcome you along. It's actually one of the best times of my week.

One of the most beautiful things about birth stories is how deeply unique they are!

This story — shared by a Back to Basics Birthing family, Bec & Steve, — has everything: adrenaline, instinct, surrender, intensity, support… and apparently a dugite snake 😅🐍

Thank you to this beautiful family for allowing us to share part of your story ✨

Do you have fears or questions about birth?
Do you want to feel more prepared and confident in your choices?
Do you want your partner to feel involved, capable, and supportive rather than standing on the sidelines?
Would you like to learn practical breathing techniques, comfort measures, and tools to support you during labour and birth?
Do you want to understand the biomechanics of your pelvis, so you understand how to help your baby into a good position?
Do you want a toolkit of mental, physical, and emotional strategies to help you work with your body and navigate the unexpected?
Most importantly, do you want to feel positive about your birth experience, no matter how your baby is born?

My June Back to Basics Birthing classes are designed to help you understand birth, your body, and your options in a supportive and practical way.

Classes run over 3 Wednesday evenings in Maylands:
(10th June, 17th June and 24th June)

Breech presentation can feel overwhelming when you first hear those words. But many babies turn in their own time — and there are gentle, supportive options that may help encourage optimal positioning during pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is unique, and there’s no “right” way to navigate this journey. The most important thing is feeling informed, supported, and connected to your body as you make decisions that feel right for you.

When someone in labour hears the words “your baby is in distress,” it can feel incredibly frightening — especially if you’re planning a VBAC and carrying fears from a previous birth experience.

But here’s something important to understand: “foetal distress” isn’t always a clear-cut emergency. Often, it’s an interpretation of your baby’s heart rate pattern during labour — and interpretation can vary between care providers.

That doesn’t mean concerns should be ignored. It simply means you deserve clear information, respectful communication, and the opportunity to understand what’s happening before decisions are made.

If a care provider raises concerns about foetal distress, here are some questions you can ask:
❓What exactly are you seeing that concerns you?
❓Is this an emergency, or can we try something else first?
❓Are there alternatives available right now?
❓Can we monitor for a little longer?

Sometimes simple changes — repositioning, hydration, movement, or rest — can improve baby’s heart rate pattern.

One of the most helpful tools during labour is B.R.A.I.N:
✨ Benefits
✨ Risks
✨ Alternatives
✨ Instinct
✨ Nothing (what happens if we wait?)

You are allowed to pause.
You are allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to be part of the decision-making process.

Continuous monitoring (CTG) is often recommended for VBAC births, but research suggests it may increase interventions without improving outcomes for many low-risk babies.

The goal isn’t to ignore medical advice. The goal is informed, collaborative care — where you feel respected, heard, and supported throughout your birth experience.

You deserve care that supports both your safety and your autonomy. 🤍
