For years I thought my body was working against me.
I blamed my neck.
My shoulders.
My headaches.
The constant tension that never seemed to fully disappear.
So I did what most of us do.
Massage.
Stretching.
Gym.
Chiropractic.
Physio.
They all helped… for a while.
Then life would get busy again.
Stress would build.
I would keep pushing through.
And before long, my body was asking for my attention again.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned wasn’t that my pain was “all in my head.”
It was that my nervous system had been carrying far more than I realised.
Years of pressure.
Responsibility.
Trying to hold everything together.
Running businesses.
Single mum trying to do everything myself.
Looking after everyone else before myself.
My body wasn’t trying to punish me.
It was trying to protect me.
As a massage therapist, I see this every week.
People walk in asking me to fix their neck, shoulders or lower back.
Sometimes tight muscles are exactly the problem.
Sometimes they’re only part of the story.
Sometimes your body is simply asking for something you’ve been too busy to give it.
Rest.
Space.
Movement.
A deep breath.
Support.
Permission to slow down.
Massage isn’t just about releasing muscles.
It’s about creating enough safety for your nervous system to finally let go of what it’s been holding onto.
Maybe today your body isn’t asking you to push harder.
Maybe it’s simply asking you to listen.
So what is your body trying to communicate with you?
