Red Nose Day

Today we recognise Red Nose Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of miscarriage, stillbirth, and newborn death, while supporting research, education, and families affected by loss.

Every familyโ€™s pregnancy and parenting journey is different, and for some, that journey includes the heartbreak of losing a baby. Red Nose Day helps shine a light on these experiences and the importance of support, understanding, and ongoing research.

It also reminds us of the importance of safe sleep practices, regular health checks, and evidence-based care to help support healthier outcomes for babies and families.

At Health in Abundance, we are proud to support our patients through every stage of life โ€” from pre-pregnancy planning and pregnancy care through to newborn and family health.

Today, we remember the babies who are no longer with us and acknowledge the families who continue to carry their memories. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒธ Spring Is Near

Spring is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time for a fresh startโ€”not just for your home and garden, but for your health too.

If you've been waiting for "the right time" to prioritise your wellbeing, consider this your reminder.

Have you been putting off a health check?
Have you noticed a change in your health that you've been meaning to ask about?
Have you been managing a concern that deserves some attention?

Regular health checks can help identify concerns early, keep track of your wellbeing, and give you the opportunity to discuss any questions or changes with your GP.

Your health is important all year round, not just when something feels wrong. A small step today can make a big difference to your future health.

So as the days get longer and the warmer months approach:
๐ŸŒธ Book that health check
๐ŸŒธ Ask about that symptom
๐ŸŒธ Take time to look after yourself

Your future self will thank you.

๐Ÿ‘‚ Hearing Health Matters

Next week on the 25th of August โ€“ Hearing Health Awareness ๐Ÿ’™

How well are you hearing?

Hearing changes can happen gradually, and sometimes we donโ€™t notice them ourselves. You might find yourself turning the TV up louder, asking people to repeat themselves, or having difficulty following conversations in busy places.

๐Ÿ‘‚ If youโ€™ve noticed a change in your hearing, donโ€™t ignore it.

A hearing check can be a simple first step towards understanding your hearing health and finding out if further assessment may be helpful.

Hearing Australia offers free 15-minute adult hearing checks for people aged 18 and over, with no referral required.

If you have concerns about your hearing or would like to discuss them with your GP, you can also book an appointment with us by calling Health in Abundance on 4981 8800.

Take care of your hearing โ€” it helps keep you connected to the people and things you love. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Looking After Your Mental Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Life can be busy, and sometimes stress, worry, low mood, or feeling overwhelmed can build up slowly without us noticing.

Taking care of your mental wellbeing doesn't always require big changes. Small steps can make a meaningful difference:
๐Ÿ’™ Make time for activities you enjoy
๐Ÿ’™ Stay connected with friends and family
๐Ÿ’™ Get outside and enjoy some fresh air
๐Ÿ’™ Prioritise rest and healthy routines
๐Ÿ’™ Talk to someone if things feel difficult

If you've been feeling unlike yourself, struggling to cope, or simply need someone to talk things through with, your GP is here to listen and support you.

You don't need to wait until things feel overwhelming to ask for help. Looking after your mental health is an important part of looking after your overall wellbeing.

๐Ÿ’ค Sleep Matters More Than You Think

A good night's sleep plays an important role in your overall health and wellbeing.

Sleep helps your body recover, supports your immune system, improves concentration, and can have a positive impact on your mood and energy levels.

If you're struggling with sleep, you're not alone. Many people experience difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, waking feeling tired, or managing stress that affects their rest.

Some simple habits that may help include:
๐ŸŒ™ Keeping a regular sleep routine
๐Ÿ“ฑ Limiting screen time before bed
โ˜• Reducing caffeine later in the day
๐Ÿšถ Staying active during the day
๐Ÿง˜ Making time to relax before bedtime

If sleep problems are ongoing or affecting your daily life, your GP can help explore possible causes and discuss strategies to improve your sleep health.

Good sleep is an important part of looking after yourself.

๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ’™ Jeans for Genes Day

Today we're recognising Jeans for Genes Dayโ€”a day dedicated to raising awareness and supporting research into childhood genetic conditions.

Every year, 1 in 20 children are born with a genetic disease or birth defect. Research is helping to improve diagnosis, develop better treatments, and give hope to families across Australia.

Whether you're wearing your favourite pair of jeans today, making a donation, or simply helping spread awareness, every little bit makes a difference.

Let's celebrate the strength of these children and their families while supporting the incredible work being done to create healthier futures.

๐Ÿ’™ Together, we can help make a differenceโ€”one pair of jeans at a time.

To learn more or make a donation, visit the official Jeans for Genes Australia website. https://fundraise.jeansforgenes.org.au/
