Getting out in the cold can be so hard, especially when Winter really seems to drag on if you live in Victoria. A hang out also doesn't have to be non-stop socialising, it could be very low energy. I know i have a friend who always suggests activities, and whilst I cant make all of them I truly appreciate the thought each time and eventually there are some that I can make! Here are a few quick ideas...

1. I don't know about you but I love having a routine, however, once you have a routine, its good to practice breaking it every now and then! Take a different route home, switch the order of tasks, or try a new way of doing something familiar. It gets your brain out of autopilot and forces it to adjust.
2. A favourite quote of mine is "whilst not every day is good, there is good in everyday." So, when something goes wrong, ask: “What’s another way to look at this?”
3. Practicing “Plan B thinking” is another great way to prepare for uncertainties that inevitably arise in life. When you make a plan, quickly come up with one or two alternatives. Even if you never use them, you’re training your mind to pivot more easily.

You've got this! Sometimes, radical acceptance of our situation is what we need to get through life's curveballs.

Do you or someone you know experience the following?:

Have experienced recurrent episodes of depression.
Notice patterns of rumination (getting “stuck in your head”), overthink, worry or mentally replay past events.
Experience automatic negative thoughts or self-criticism.

If so, Mindfulness Based CBT
(MBCT) might be something that could be helpful. MBCT is an evidence based group therapy program that focuses on helping individuals develop a different relationship with their thoughts and emotions. Rather than trying to change or challenge thoughts, participants learn to notice them as passing mental events.

More information about the referral process can be found on our website: https://securemindspsychology.com.au/services/mbct/

Our very own clinical psychologist and Director Dylan D'Arcy will be facilitating this group with more details to come!

Whether its your room, study or office, you don't need a lot of money to create a restful space! Some options on a shoestring could include: Changing your light globe from white to warm (these are often available at stores like Bunnings!) A personal favourite of our staff is lofi-beats on YouTube! Music or even white noise can be especially good at promoting a flow state if that is your thing! Studies have shown that different shades of green promote bodily relaxation. Try accessorising with green or others colours that make you feel good!
