At Peak Performance Psychology, the initial session is a chance for your psychologist to gain an understanding of your current concerns and presenting issue, while providing a space for you to become familiar with the therapeutic process. It is normal to feel nervous or uncertain starting therapy, however therapy at Peak Performance Psychology is collaborative and tailored to each individual's pace and needs.

The way we speak to ourselves can shape how we think, feel and respond to challenges. When self-talk is consistently critical, it can reinforce self-doubt and confidence over time. Developing more balanced self-talk and acting as a parent to ourselves involves noticing these patterns, questioning them, and responding to ourselves in a more supportive way.

In preparation for Birth Trauma Awareness Week, next week the 15-21st of July, here is a quick infographic containing information relating to birth trauma in order to bring awareness to the complex psychological issues involved with birth trauma.
The theme for 2024 is Informed Consent, which has been inspired by the NSW parliamentary inquiry regarding informed consent and permission in prenatal and birthing care. Informed consent is essential for respectful maternity care and everyone is entitled to know their choices, risks and alternatives during childbirth - yet in healthcare this principle is often ignored causing trauma for birthing individuals and families.
If you or anyone you know has been affected by birth trauma don’t hesitate to make use of this posts listed resources.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗥 𝗨 𝗢𝗞 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗪𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿!✨
As we approach R U OK day tomorrow, we want to shed light on this year's meaningful theme, "I'm here to hear". This reinforces that you do not need formal qualifications to talk with people about mental health, as meaningful conversations are important for everyone. When we truly listen, we're not just hearing words; we're understanding feelings, validating experiences, and nurturing connections.

At Peak Performance Psychology, we stand by the belief that mental health matters, and it begins with conversation. Whether you're seeking support, lending an empathetic ear, or simply spreading positivity, every effort counts. Having a conversation with someone who may be in need may play a greater role than you may think. Encouraging someone to take action to better their mental health may also be beneficial, which could include sharing online mental health resources, suggesting a visit to a GP or psychologist or even encouraging acts of self-care.

Here's how you can participate in this R U OK Day:
- Reach out to someone you care about and ask, "R U OK?"
- Listen without judgment.
- Share your own experiences and encourage vulnerability.

Remember, it's okay not to be okay, and it's even better to seek help and support when you need it.

Happy Friday! At some point during this weekend, try to take a moment to reflect on your current mental and physical state. Self care broadly refers to activities and practices that support physical, emotional and mental health. This does not have to be an expensive or time consuming activity as often the simplest things contribute greatly to ones current state. Establishing regular behaviours that contribute to your overall wellbeing and functioning can result in positive outcomes for your mental, emotional and physical health. Take these brief 8 tips for wellbeing as a reminder to do one nice thing for yourself this weekend.

Examples of self care practices can include:

- Taking a hot bath

- Meditating
