When an LGBTIQA+ participant opens the door to a new support worker, years of lived history and past discrimination can put them on guard. At the same time, the care worker is often nervous about saying or doing the wrong thing.

Andrew Rogers breaks down how we break this cycle.
Understanding the new Aged Care Act and Statement of Rights, as well as education and open communication are vital. When care workers are trained and supported to talk through their nervousness, a tense encounter turns into two relaxed people building a relationship based on dignity and respect.
