A scroll changed something yesterday. 🌍
I sat at my desk in Melbourne at 10pm, printed notes in hand, and spoke to a room of researchers, clinicians, advocates and change-makers from across the world through a screen that connected Melbourne to Rwanda, Toronto, Pakistan, the UK and beyond.
This was GMHAN Stigma & Discrimination Working Group Session 16.
And it was their highest attended session in history.🙏
I stood before that room and said what I have always believed
Stigma does not begin in a clinic.
It begins in silence.
It begins when a mother feels guilty for wanting to rest.
When a professional cannot breathe before walking into work.
When someone posts something real gets one dismissive comment and never speaks their truth again.
We have built entire mental health systems around crisis.
But what about the moment before the crisis?
What about the scroll at 2am when no one is watching?
That is where Sentio lives.
Perception before Pathology.
Safety before Intervention.
Relationship before Technique.
Prevention as Responsibility.
Not a helpline. Not a checklist. Not a diagnosis.
A card. A sentence. A moment of recognition that says :
you are not too small for this to matter.
Not in a clinic. Not after a diagnosis.
In a scroll. In a Tuesday morning Instagram feed.
In the quiet moment before the label arrives.
Sentio is finding its people.
Thank you Sue Baker OBE, Taha Sabri and Judy for trusting me with this stage. Thank you Iniact, Prosper and Jason for the honour of standing alongside you.
And to everyone still carrying something in silence
The first act of stigma reduction is simply being seen.
We are not waiting for the clinic.
We are coming to find you. 🙏
