Recently, Rachel and Jo had the opportunity to meet with Federal Parliamentarian Jo Briskey, to discuss the experiences of young people and families navigating the NDIS.

Rachel and Jo spoke about the worrying impacts that proposed changes and NDIS cuts will likely have on disabled people, as well as the challenges many families are already experiencing. We're just one small business, but even we are seeing increasing uncertainty, reduced access to supports, longer waiting periods, and significant stress for people trying to maintain the services they rely on to participate in everyday life.

We're grateful for the opportunity to share what we're hearing from our community and to advocate for supports that are accessible, equitable, and genuinely responsive to people's needs.

Thank you to Jo Briskey for taking the time to listen and engage in these important conversations. We continue to be hopeful that we can make a difference.

Another planning day, another "watch this space."

We're aware we're serial teasers. In our defence - there really is a lot brewing! You've already seen some of them come to life - our new team members, our dungeons and dragons group starting up, all of our training...

But we just want to say...More coming soon. And if you want to know first, join our mailing list!

They say that you should "never meet your heroes"...except when your hero is Michelle Bihary! She's even more generous, warm and wise in person than you imagine. And oh so humble!

If you don't know who she is, we demand that you look her up. She has shaped our understanding of clinical and professional supervision, and we use these principles in Every. Single. Supervision session. If you are looking for supervision training, do not sleep on it, hers is the BEST.

She also continues to show us how to lead as OTs while maintaining our values - and has been a model for us since we first had exposure to her as early-career OTs.

Thank you Michelle (from your fangirls here at The Social Confidence Collective!)

Jo attended NATCA this week, and was way too engrossed in the content so couldn’t multitask and do social media like Sonya did last year 🤣.

A few notes and reflections……NATCA is truly an inclusive experience. and the team have done an amazing job.

A/Prof Monique Botha’s keynote in Reclaiming Humanity: Identity, State Based Violence, and Neurodivergent Resistance was 🔥. Made the anger around NDIS reforms rise up strong again. your moving poetry reinforced this further.

key note on Pathology or Protection: Depathologising BPD and NPD through the Neurodiversity Lens was a powerful reminder of expressions of distress being labelled as pathology.

Prof. Nick Walker discussed what we are affirming in ND affirming practice and one quote has stuck with me that ND affirmimg practice “prioritizes human wellbeing over the enforcement of neuronormativity” ❤️

So many more amazing presenters across the 2 days showcasing their very important work. Thank you to all who shared - you continue provide inspiration in our work as OTs supporting ND young people.

playing Dungeons and Dragons, then contact us now - the group starts on Monday 27th July.

If you want to find out more about Dylan, then check out his bio on our website.

Phew… this term has been a big one!

We’ve been a bit quiet on here at times...not because things have slowed down, but because so much has been happening behind the scenes (and in real life spaces with young people, families and ither organisations).

Some highlights include:
Delivering lots of workshops across Victoria (and one with Can’t Face School)
Welcoming Bec to our team, who is now seeing young people for individual OT
Continuing our teens and young adult groups each week..and excitingly, becoming a company!

We can't wait to share with you our plans for next term...but for now, we are just so grateful for all of your support, and we thank you for being part of our SCC community 🙏

Slide 2: We know connection can feel hard. You want to connect with people, make friends and have fun......but the social stuff feels exhausting. Conversations feel hard, you feel worried about doing or saying the “wrong” thing. We get it and we’re here to help.
