Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Sport 💙
Today I had the privilege of returning to Victoria University as an alumni speaker for the Careers for Young Women in Sport Forum, speaking to more than 170 young women about career pathways in sport.
It was a real full circle moment.
Walking back onto campus brought back plenty of memories. As a VU student, I threw myself into university life, serving on SOMA, captaining the VU Uni Games team, working as a sports trainer and teaching other students, and saying yes to as many opportunities as possible. I could never have imagined where those experiences would lead.
Since graduating, I’ve been fortunate to remain closely connected with VU through alumni programs, leadership workshops, careers events, International Women’s Day celebrations, sports trainer education, Strength and Conditioning information nights, and collaborative opportunities through the Western Bulldogs and the wider sporting industry. Being recognised as a finalist for the VU Rising Star Alumni Award in 2022 reinforced something I’ve always known, that VU is more than a university. It’s a community, a network and a place of belonging.
Today was another reminder that there is no one pathway into sport.
Whether your interests lie in athlete health, coaching, administration, leadership, marketing, operations, community engagement, data, performance or research, there is a place for you.
A huge thank you to Victoria University for continuing to invest in the next generation of women in sport and for inviting me back to share my story, and workshop for injury management in allied health.
It was inspiring to spend the day alongside incredible leaders including Susan Alberti AC, Clare Burton, Lee Bevan-Woodley and Cameron McLeod, and to meet so many enthusiastic and ambitious young women.
To every student in the room - keep showing up, stay curious, never stop learning, back yourself and don’t wait until you feel “ready”. The opportunities that change your life are often the ones you never planned for.
