One question I keep coming back to…

🧠 What is happening in the brain when someone stops fighting a difficult thought and starts relating to it differently?

I’m exploring the intersection of art therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and neuroscience, and whether art-making may help support psychological flexibility and neuroplasticity.

I’ve shared some of my thoughts in a new blog. Link in bio. I’d love to hear your thoughts or connect with others interested in this area. 💛

One of the greatest privileges of being an art therapist is hearing how therapy has made a difference for a child and their family 💛

Receiving feedback like this reminds me why I do what I do. Thank you to the families who trust me to be part of their journey. It truly is an honour.

Healing isn’t about getting rid of difficult thoughts or emotions. It’s about learning how to respond to them differently, so they no longer stop you from living a meaningful life.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), combined with art therapy, can help build psychological flexibility, reconnect with your values.

🌻 Here’s a little snap of the new resource I’ve made for clients.

🎨 Sometimes clients are curious to why we are doing certain activities. So I modified the expressive therapies continuum frame to be more user friendly and help clients feel informed.

📖 This shows the stages of the creative process, what materials would be most suitable for different presentations i.e anxiety, feeling safe in the body etc.

🖌️ The cards give suggestions for what activities to do, what materials to use. There is also a bigger explanation of the different levels and what part of the therapeutic process it is appropriate for - stability, processing, integration, sensory feedback etc. They also have questions to ask to support the process 😊

I’ve been using this with different Art Therapy prompts - it’s been great for session planning, helping clients understand what and why we are doing things (without bringing out a research paper) and enhancing the creative process ❤️

🌻 This is especially helpful for working with clients who require more support (cptsd or more complex mental health presentations). We can work together collaboratively and transparently to ensure everything makes sense and feels supportive.

I can do a video if anyone wants more info 🌻😊🌞

🎨 Beginners Guide to Art Therapy 🎨

The slides explain a little bit of art therapy and there’s so much more to say, it’s such a dynamic and powerful Therapy.

📖 The theory I use might be different to another Art Therapist, as we all have different “tools in our kits”. Whoever you decide to see make sure they are qualified and experienced in the field you’re looking for help in. In Australia the registration board for Art Psychotherapists is ANZACATA and you can search the website for professional members and their areas of speciality ❤️

Art therapy is a powerful tool that can support your well-being and personal development. It’s never too late to start your art therapy journey!

If you’re interested in learning more about art therapy and its transformative effects, I will be posting more updates and insights. 🌿 Share this post with someone who might benefit from art therapy and let’s spread the healing power of art together! 🎉💛

Hope everyone’s having a great start to the week 🎨

I’ve just discovered these easy grip paint brush “pens” 🖌️ wow, they are so great for expressive mark making for all ages ♥️

It’s also helpful for individuals who have sensory issues and don’t like getting too messy but still want to enjoy the sensation of using a fluid medium 🌞

I heard this fun quote and thought it was very true 😉

“A creative life is an amplified life. It's a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life” - Elizabeth Gilbert ❤️
