Heart disease is the second leading cause of death for women in Australia and your risk increases significantly after menopause!

The Numbers Are Alarming:
💔 18 women die of heart disease every day in Australia
💔 Twice as many women die of heart disease than breast cancer
💔 Australian women are more than twice as likely to die after a heart attack than men
💔 Around 54 women experience a heart attack or unstable angina every day

Women's Heart Attack Symptoms Often Differ:
⚠️ Only 1 in 3 women experience 'typical' chest pain
⚠️ Neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdominal pain
⚠️ Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort
⚠️ Pain in one or both arms
⚠️ Nausea or vomiting
⚠️ Breaking out in a cold sweat
⚠️ Light-headedness or dizziness
⚠️ Unusual feelings of fatigue
⚠️ Heart palpitations

Women's symptoms may occur during rest or sleep and can be triggered by stress!

🫀 Now Available at Rotar Heart Health – Left & Right Atrial (LA/RA) Strain Analysis

We're pleased to now offer Left and Right Atrial Strain assessment as part of our comprehensive Echocardiography service, fully Bulk Billed for eligible patients.

Atrial strain provides additional information about atrial function before structural changes become apparent, helping clinicians detect subtle cardiac dysfunction earlier and supporting more informed clinical decision-making.

Clinical applications include:
✔ Assessment of diastolic dysfunction and HFpEF
✔ Atrial fibrillation (AF) risk assessment and follow-up
✔ Evaluation after rhythm control or AF ablation
✔ Assessment following cryptogenic stroke/TIA
✔ Additional insight into atrial function beyond standard echocardiographic measurements

The latest American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) consensus highlights atrial strain as an important emerging tool in the assessment of atrial function, diastolic disease and atrial fibrillation.

⚡ Cardioversion: How Doctors Reset Your Heart's Rhythm

Ever wondered how cardiologists restore a normal heartbeat? Cardioversion uses controlled electrical impulses to "reset" an irregular heart rhythm!

Why Is It Needed?
❓ When the heart beats irregularly or too fast
❓ When medications alone aren't controlling rhythm
❓ To relieve symptoms like palpitations and fatigue
❓ To reduce risk of complications from arrhythmias

What Happens During Cardioversion?
➡️ Patient is given short-acting sedation
➡️ Electrodes are placed on the chest
➡️ A brief, controlled electrical impulse is delivered
➡️ The heart's electrical system resets
➡️ Normal rhythm is restored

Understanding your treatment options is the first step to better heart health!

❤️ Keeping Our Skills Current – Because Every Second Matters

Last week, our Administration and Cardiac Technical team at Rotar Heart Health came together for a Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR training session.
While we hope these skills are never needed, being prepared is an important part of providing a safe environment for our patients, visitors and one another. Regular training helps ensure our team remains confident in recognizing a medical emergency, responding quickly and delivering high-quality CPR until further help arrives.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and to our trainers for delivering an engaging and practical session.
Looking after your ❤️
