It’s time to remove GST form Exercise Physiology.

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in Australia, with physical inactivity among the key contributors.

In an op-ed for the Courier Mail, ESSA CEO and Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Katie Lyndon makes the case for exercise physiology as a smarter approach to cardiovascular disease.

She reveals that exercise physiology services create a $152.7 million net economic benefit in relation to cardiovascular disease over a three-year period and are associated with 5330 avoided hospital admissions, nearly 4000 fewer emergency department presentations, and more than 81,000 avoided GP visits.

“It is astonishing that exercise physiology remains the only Medicare-recognised allied health profession subject to GST, especially when we know the impact it could have on nearly 4.5 million Australians who live with cardiovascular disease,” says Katie.

“That's why I'm calling on the Australian Government to axe the tax on health. Please join me in urging Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, to remove GST from this essential healthcare.”
