If you've had more than one child, you might have discovered that what worked beautifully for one doesn't necessarily work for the next. 🤍

One child might settle easily with a predictable routine, while another needs more support. Your circumstances may have changed, too, with daycare, siblings and a much busier family life.

And when the things you did before aren't working, it's easy to question yourself.

But you haven't suddenly forgotten how to parent.

Every child has their own temperament, needs and experiences. Your previous knowledge is still valuable, but your approach may need to look different this time.

Rather than trying to recreate what worked before, start with the child in front of you and what they need right now.

I'd love to know: are your children completely different sleepers?

Have you ever tracked every nap, wake window and night waking, only to still feel unsure about what’s going on with your child’s sleep? 🤍

A sleep log can tell us a lot about what’s happening, but it doesn’t always tell us why.

Two children can have very similar sleep patterns but need completely different support.

That’s why looking only at the clock doesn’t always give us the answers we’re searching for.

Understanding sleep means looking at the child behind the pattern, including their development, temperament, comfort and individual needs.

Because the goal isn’t simply to make the numbers look better. It’s to understand what might genuinely help your child.

And sometimes, that’s where the real progress begins 🤍

18/10/2026

It’s easy to measure progress by longer stretches of sleep, fewer night wakes or finally sleeping through the night.

But sometimes, progress starts much earlier than that.

It’s understanding why your child is waking. Finding an approach that feels right for your family. Feeling more confident in how you respond, even when things don’t go to plan.

Those changes matter, too.

Sleep progress doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful, and you don’t have to navigate it all alone.

When bedtime becomes a struggle, it's easy to assume your child simply isn't tired enough or that their routine needs changing.

But several things can influence how easily a child falls asleep.

Their sleep pressure matters, but so can their emotional state, their need for connection, their developmental stage and whether they're physically comfortable.

Sometimes more than one of these things is happening at once.

Before changing the routine, consider what settling actually looks like for your child.

Are they happy and playing for an hour? Becoming increasingly distressed? Seeking reassurance? Showing signs of discomfort?

Those details can help you work out where to start.

And if physical symptoms or persistent sleep difficulties are involved, it's important to speak with the appropriate healthcare professional.

The aim isn't to make bedtime complicated. It's to understand what's making it difficult 🤍

The nap transition can be messy 😂

One day your toddler seems ready to drop their nap.

The next day they’re exhausted by lunchtime.

Then they refuse to sleep all afternoon, only to fall asleep in the car late in the day.

And you’re left wondering whether they still need that nap.

The reality is that transitions don’t always follow a neat, predictable pattern.

Sleep needs change gradually, and during the transition, some children still need daytime sleep while others begin managing longer stretches awake.

Rather than making a decision based on one difficult nap or one surprisingly good day without it, look at how your little one is coping over time.

Consider their mood, their energy, and what’s happening with overnight sleep, too.

One day doesn’t always tell you the whole story 🤍

Does your baby sleep beautifully for someone else, but struggle the moment they’re home with you? 👀

It’s something many families experience.

Sleep can look different depending on the environment, the time of day, how tired your little one is, and who’s supporting them.

A baby might nap well at daycare but struggle at home. They might settle more easily with one parent than another, or sleep differently in the car compared with their cot.

That doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.

Instead, it’s worth looking at what’s different between those situations.

What changes? What stays the same? And what might those differences tell us about your little one’s sleep?

Understanding those patterns can help us make more informed decisions about what, if anything, needs to change. 🤍

Does your little one sleep differently depending on who’s looking after them?

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely exhausted to ask for help. 🤍

You don’t need to have a “terrible sleeper.”

You don’t need to be waking every hour.

You don’t need to be desperate.

Maybe you’re managing… but bedtime is taking longer than you’d like.

Maybe you’re functioning… but you’re tired of being the only person who can settle your baby.

Maybe sleep is actually okay, but you have questions and want to understand what’s happening.

You’re allowed to want things to feel easier.

Sleep support doesn’t have to mean completely overhauling everything.

Sometimes it’s simply having someone look at what’s happening with you, help you make sense of it, and work out whether there’s anything worth changing.

And if there isn’t? That’s okay too. 🤍

Your baby's sleep doesn't have to look like anyone else's 🤍

It's so easy to compare.

A friend's baby sleeps through the night.
Someone else's baby takes beautiful cot naps.
Another baby settles independently from the beginning.

And when your baby isn't doing those things, it's very easy to wonder whether you're somehow getting it wrong.

But babies are individuals.

Their temperament, development, feeding, environment and family circumstances can all influence how they sleep.

And your preferences matter too.

Maybe you're happy feeding overnight.
Maybe you love your contact naps.
Maybe you're ready for more independent sleep.
Maybe you're not sure what you want to change yet, you just know you're exhausted and something doesn't feel sustainable anymore.

There isn't one “right” version of infant sleep.

When I work with families, I'm not trying to make their baby sleep like someone else's baby.

I'm trying to understand their baby, their family and what they're actually hoping to achieve.

Because sometimes the most useful question isn't:
“Is my baby's sleep normal?”

It's:
“Is this sleep working for us?”

And if the answer is no, we can start there.

It’s not always the broken sleep that feels the hardest.

Sometimes it’s the mental load that comes with it.

Wondering when they’ll wake tonight.

Planning your evening around bedtime.

Dreading nap time because you already know it might be a battle.

Lying awake wondering, “What am I supposed to do differently tomorrow?”

Googling sleep advice at 2am.

And constantly questioning whether you’re doing something wrong.

When your child’s sleep is difficult, it can take up so much space in your head.

And honestly, that’s something I see so often with the families I work with.

Because sleep support isn’t just about getting your little one to sleep better.

It’s about helping you understand what’s happening, feel confident in what you’re doing, and get some of that mental space back too. 🤍

Are you trying to fix the wrong part of your child’s sleep? 👀

It’s so easy to look at the most obvious problem and assume that’s what needs changing.

“My toddler won’t nap anymore.”

“They’re fighting bedtime.”

“They’re waking at 5am.”

But sometimes what we’re seeing isn’t actually what’s causing the problem.

A difficult nap could be connected to overnight sleep.
A bedtime battle could be connected to separation.
An early morning could be part of a bigger pattern.

So before changing the schedule, I like to step back and ask:

What has actually changed, and why?

Because sometimes you don’t need another routine tweak.

You need to understand what’s happening underneath it first. 🤍

If this sounds familiar, you can start with a FREE Sleep Assessment Call and we can unpack what’s going on for your family.
