What Does the Research Say About Chiropractic Care and Inflammation?

Research into chiropractic spinal adjustments and its potential effects on inflammation-related biomarkers continues to grow. While this is an emerging area of study, there is still much to learn about the underlying mechanisms and what the findings may mean in clinical practice.

Current research suggests spinal adjustments may influence various biological markers, including:

✅ Neurotensin and oxytocin
✅ Certain neuropeptides and inflammatory biomarkers
✅ Substance P, a neurotransmitter involved in pain signalling
✅ Some markers associated with inflammatory responses

A recent study investigated whether different spinal manipulation force levels produced different neuromechanical and biological responses.

Key Findings

The researchers found that:

* Participants receiving an 800N thrust demonstrated higher levels of certain cytokines compared to those receiving a 400N thrust.
* Different force magnitudes appeared to influence selected blood biomarkers related to inflammation in healthy young adults.
* The observed effects were measured in the short term, and further research is needed to determine their clinical significance.

What Does This Mean?

At present, the research suggests that spinal adjustments may influence inflammatory biomarkers, and that responses may vary depending on the force applied.

However, it is important to note that:

* Research in this area is still developing.
* These findings do not demonstrate improved health outcomes or clinical benefits.
* More high-quality studies are needed to better understand the implications of these biological changes.

Scientific research continues to help us better understand how the body responds to chiropractic care, and we look forward to seeing how this field evolves.

Movement is medicine. 🏃‍♀️

Our bodies were designed to move, but long hours sitting, scrolling, driving and working at desks can reduce spinal resilience and increase pain susceptibility over time. Small amounts of daily movement can make a big difference to how your body feels and functions.

Whether it’s a walk, stretching, strength work or regular chiropractic care, every step toward better movement is a step toward a healthier spine. 🙌 Book a consultation today to learn more.

Physical stress. Emotional stress. Chemical stress.

While these stressors may look different, they can all place strain on the body and nervous system. Over time, this stress can contribute to spinal dysfunction, often referred to as subluxation.

Whether it's poor posture and repetitive movements, the pressures of daily life, or environmental and lifestyle factors, the body is constantly adapting.

At Chiropractic Life Brunswick West, our Corrective Care approach focuses on identifying and addressing these underlying stresses to help improve spinal function, support nervous system health, and enhance your body's ability to adapt and heal.

It’s easy to think back pain is just “one of those things.”
Something that comes and goes… something you just push through.

But when you stop and think about it... millions of people are dealing with it every day. Not just occasionally, but in how they sit, move, work, sleep, and live.

And what most people don’t realise is that it’s rarely about one single cause.

It’s often the accumulation of small, everyday habits:
• long periods sitting
• not enough movement
• positions we stay in for too long
• stress that the body never quite switches off from

Individually, they seem harmless.
Together, they start to add up.

That’s why so many people find it keeps coming back — not because nothing is working, but because the underlying load hasn’t changed.

The good news is, it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Small shifts in how you move, how often you move, and how you break up your day can start to change how your body responds over time.

Just remember, healing and change takes time. Be patient, give your body a chance to make better adaptations.

If you feel that you feel stuck with your progression, give us a call so I can show you why your body may not be responding.

Sometimes awareness is the first step towards something different.

Back pain has a habit of showing up at the worst times.
Busy weeks. Poor sleep. Long days sitting. High stress.

And while it’s easy to blame one muscle or one movement, the body rarely works that way.
Low back pain is often less about a single structure and more about how the whole system is coping — movement, posture, stress load, recovery, and nervous system capacity. When one or more of those areas are under pressure for long enough, the signal gets louder.

That’s why movement matters so much.

Not “exercise” in the strict sense — but regular, varied movement throughout the day. Every joint in the body relies on being taken through its full range to stay adaptable. When we remove that input, the system stiffens, guards, and compensates.

The low back and pelvis sit right at the centre of that system. When they stop moving well, everything above and below has to work harder.
Little changes, done often, can quietly shift how the body feels and functions over time.

If your back has been getting your attention lately, this is a gentle reminder to listen — not with fear, but with curiosity.

Your back doesn’t need punishment.
It usually needs support, movement, and understanding.
